Role Description As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will perform cloud and system administration while building, maintaining, and optimizing new and existing cloud-based systems. You will ensure the reliability, security, scalability, and performance of cloud environments, supporting business operations through effective infrastructure management and continuous improvement. Duties and Responsibilities - Propose automation/improvements and work with stakeholders to deliver win-win solutions - Improve the capability and efficiency of the Cloud Engineering team and the company’s wider IT department - Administer an existing Public Cloud environment – build, deploy and maintain servers (Linux & Windows) and services in AWS - Manage Puppet controlled infrastructure - Develop and build new cloud-based systems running in a Public Cloud - Investigate new cloud technology releases for suitability to improve platform - Prepare and maintain supporting documentation - Lead the design and architecture of new cloud solutions, ensuring reliability, security, scalability and cost efficiency - Support and maintain production systems, acting as escalation point for complex incidents and leading root cause analysis - Drive security best practice and cost optimisation across the cloud environment - Mentor and coach the Mid-level Cloud Engineer and other team members Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related - At least 5 years of experience as a cloud engineer or similar; responsible for the following: - Developing and administering an AWS environment - Linux Server Administration - Configuration management (Puppet) - Experience with infrastructure as Code such as Cloudformation, Terraform, and Serverless - Experience with scripting languages such as Bash and Linux shell scripts - Automation experience, including familiarity with tools such as GitHub Actions and similar frameworks - Familiarity with database technologies such as with AWS RDS and similar AWS-based database services - Experience administering Web Servers such as nginx or apache - Experience working in an Agile environment - Strong problem-solving mindset, with an ability to propose solutions, collaborate and get buy in from stakeholders - Self-motivated with ability to lead and coach others - Demonstrated experience designing cloud architectures and leading technical initiatives from proposal through to delivery - Assume responsibility for meeting project timelines - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) to build effective working relationships both internal and external to the organisation - Adopt a thorough approach to developing and testing systems with a high level of attention to detail and quality - Flexible approach to new challenges and implementing new ideas - Ability to prioritize tasks and communicating issues for resolution - Desire to learn new technologies and methods that can improve how we operate - Initiative-driven, with a desire to take on greater responsibilities Advantageous Skills/Experience - Experience with Jira - Experience with calling AWS APIs - Experience with the software development technologies, such as: - Node.JS, Javascript - Web Services REST/JSON - API Testing Tools (Postman etc.) - Experience working with Continuous Integration Pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, Bamboo, AWS Code Pipeline)
