Role Description A Special Hazards Designer is responsible for using AutoCAD and other design software to create accurate and clear design documents, schematics, and layouts of fire suppression/special hazards systems. Work Location: This is a US-Based remote role, located in CA. Pay Range: 95,000 - 110,000 annually. The posted salary range reflects the anticipated hiring range for this position at the time of posting and is provided in accordance with applicable pay transparency laws. Actual starting pay will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, education, internal equity, geographic location (where applicable), and market considerations. Not all candidates will be hired at the top of the posted range. The posted range reflects base salary only and does not include any applicable bonuses, commissions, overtime, or the value of employee benefits. Eligible employees may participate in the Company's benefit programs, subject to the terms and eligibility requirements of each plan. Key Responsibilities - Design and specify detailed clean agent fire suppression systems adhering to local, state, and national codes, regulations, and standards. - Perform field surveys and attend project specific meetings. - Conduct thorough reviews of construction drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with the scope of work and jurisdictional requirements. - Provide expert technical advice and solutions to complex design challenges. - Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and client teams to ensure specifications and designs meet quality and safety standards. - Manage and oversee multiple design projects from concept through completion. - Prepare design packages for permit applications and make corrections as needed. - Maintain strong working relationships with the Hiller technicians and office staff to facilitate effective communications and exceptional customer service. - Stay updated with latest technologies and changes in fire protection regulations. - Other duties as assigned. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field required; NICET certification in Fire Suppression Systems is preferred. - Minimum of 4 years of experience in designing clean agent suppression systems. Experience with other fire protection disciplines is a plus. - Extensive experience with AutoCAD and any other relevant design software. - Demonstrated knowledge of fire protection systems and applicable codes (NFPA, IFC, etc.). - Ability to work independently and in a remote setting, managing time effectively and meeting project deadlines. - Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Develop communication block diagrams, panel layout and bill of material drawings, SCADA AC and DC schematics, fiber detail drawings, and network drawings. • Point lists for data transferred between RTUs, IEDs, and other SCADA systems. • Develop communication settings for relays and IEDs. • Develop SCADA system and Network documentation for projects. • Design Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens. • Support development of automation tools to improve project efficiency (python, etc.). • Interpreting and incorporating vendor information into design deliverables. • Providing review and design input for protection and control drawings to support SCADA system requirements. • Supporting development of RTU, PAC, HMI, and network device configurations using approved project platforms and standards. • Applying client standards related to the work and supporting quality, interoperability, and performance expectations. • Coordinating with relay settings engineers, project managers, client personnel, suppliers, and other designers to ensure complete and timely designs.
