• Database administration and optimization — own maintenance, patching, and upgrades across our database fleet; lead performance tuning, indexing strategy, and query optimization for mission-critical, high-throughput systems. • Reliability, backup, and recovery — design and own backup/recovery strategy, replication, and disaster recovery planning to guarantee stability and data integrity for payment processing workloads. • Infrastructure as Code — automate database provisioning and maintenance with Terraform, working within the same IaC practices as the rest of the infrastructure team. • Data migration and conversion — plan and execute complex data migration and conversion routines for production systems, verifying successful completion with minimal risk and downtime. • Monitoring and performance — build the dashboards, alerts, and monitors that surface database health and performance issues before they become incidents. • Technical leadership — mentor engineers on database best practices, provide expertise on deployment and architecture planning, and proactively communicate risks, issues, and next steps to the team.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator in production environments.
  • Deep PostgreSQL expertise — performance tuning, indexing strategies, replication, and query optimization at scale.
  • AWS — solid experience with RDS, EC2, VPC, IAM, and S3; understanding of networking fundamentals for database connectivity.
  • CDC (Change Data Capture) integrations.
  • Database security — access controls, encryption at rest and in transit, auditing, and compliance best practices for sensitive payment data.
  • Infrastructure as Code — Terraform experience, with a preference for infrastructure reviewed in PRs rather than clicked in consoles.
  • Python proficiency for automation and scripting.
  • Proven backup/recovery and disaster recovery planning for critical systems.
  • Distributed systems debugging — experience diagnosing data-related issues and cascading failures in production.
  • English — advanced proficiency required.

Role Description As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for end-to-end administration of Oracle 19c clustered database platforms. Your responsibilities will include: - Managing all Oracle databases and applications. - Managing all database objects, tuning, cloning, patching, and replication. - Creating and maintaining all databases required for development, testing, pre-prod, and production usage. - Installing new versions of the Oracle database in cluster and standalone environments. - Planning and implementing backup and recovery of the Oracle database. - Planning and configuring Disaster Recovery environment using Data Guard, and performing Disaster Recovery tests. - Controlling migration of programs, database changes, and reference data changes through the development life cycle. - Implementing operational automation using Ansible and shell scripting. - Performing complex performance tuning and optimization for operational efficiency. - Utilizing tuning utilities and reports such as AWR, ASH, ADDM, SQLT, SQL Tuning Advisor, SQL tracing and analysis, and database event tracing. - Performing frequent database refreshes and migrations. - Enforcing and maintaining database constraints to ensure integrity of the database. - Administering all database objects, including tables, clusters, indexes, views, sequences, packages, and procedures. - Discovering and implementing performance and uptime improvement strategies. - Assisting with impact analysis of any changes made to the database objects. - Leveraging Oracle expertise and knowledge by providing PLSQL tuning recommendations to developers. - Participating in 24/7 on-call rotation for various Production support & database maintenance activities. Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Information Systems, Computer Science, or work equivalent. - Proven 5 to 7 years of Oracle DBA experience. - A minimum of 5 years of database support and design experience and migration/upgrade experience with Oracle. - 3+ years of experience administering Oracle RAC environments. - Experience working with Oracle RAC cluster and 19c database, preferable with multi-tenant architecture. - Work experience with installing and supporting Golden Gate, and configuring GoldenGate to be used as a replication tool. - Experience in installation, configuration, and maintaining Oracle RAC in Virtualized (VM) environment. - Experience in building a DR database using DataGuard, and experience in planning and supporting Disaster Recovery testing. - Working knowledge of Cloud infrastructure such as AWS or OCI. - A good knowledge of LINUX and Windows operating system(s). - Experience in Ansible or similar configuration management tools is desirable. - Good knowledge of Oracle backup and recovery scenarios. - A good knowledge & experience in using and configuring OEM. - Experience and knowledge in migrating code, database changes, and data through the various stages of the development life cycle.
