We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support CEDA’s partnership with the State of Illinois Office of Community Assistance through the Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program. This role leads technical engineering work for multi-family weatherization projects across Illinois, with a focus on mechanical systems, energy conservation, quality control, compliance, and technical assistance. In this role, you will: - Review engineering reports, drawings, energy models, utility data, and project documentation. - Evaluate mechanical systems, building shell retrofits, and weatherization work for quality and compliance. - Conduct site inspections and prepare clear quality control reports. - Provide training and technical assistance to local agencies and program partners. - Support the use and review of TREAT energy modeling for multi-family weatherization projects. - Help strengthen statewide weatherization tools, processes, and technical guidance. Qualifications - A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. - At least two years of professional mechanical engineering experience. - Experience with energy conservation, weatherization, building systems, or multi-family projects. - Strong ability to review technical reports, drawings, audits, calculations, and compliance documentation. - Comfort working independently in a remote environment while collaborating with CEDA, the State of Illinois, and local agency partners. - Strong judgment, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills. - Experience with TREAT energy modeling, IHWAP standards, HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, refrigeration, or other mechanical systems is strongly preferred. • Lead high-impact structural design work for utility-scale renewable energy and substation projects. • Create structural engineering plans, details, and calculations for renewable energy and substation projects. • Design concrete or steel foundations for project equipment to meet jurisdictional requirements at local, State and Federal levels for various geotechnical parameters and soil types. • Acquire and apply advanced knowledge of renewable energy system layouts and components such as modules, racking, inverters, and Balance of Systems (BOS). • Design a project, system, component, or process, and prepare project documentation. • Formulate and solve problems. • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard procedures and criteria. • Develop a work plan for project tasks and discipline team members. • Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, and codes. • Support client interaction for multiple projects in a single portfolio. • Assign tasks to and direct discipline team members to complete assignments. • Provide mentoring for staff engineers. • Attend project meetings and present specific aspects of engineering assignments with high proficiency and confidence.

• Lead high-impact electrical design work for utility-scale PV Solar, Battery Storage (BESS), and substation projects. • Create electrical engineering plans, details, and calculations for renewable energy and substation projects. • Independently provide design drawings, including but not limited to one-line and three-line diagrams, electrical layouts, AC/DC schematics, AC/DC cable schedules, wiring diagrams, grounding, trenching, and conduit details. • Create equipment specifications for and apply knowledge of renewable energy systems including PV solar modules, inverters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), transformers, cable management systems, and balance-of-system (BOS). • Design a project, system, component, or process, and prepare project documentation. • Formulate and solve problems. • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard procedures and criteria. • Develop a work plan for project tasks and discipline team members. • Lead multiple projects and may act as Engineer of Record. • Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, and codes. • Support client interaction for multiple projects in a single portfolio. • Assign tasks to and direct discipline team members to complete assignments. • Provide mentoring for staff engineers. • Assist with proposals to provide professional services. • Attend project meetings and present specific aspects of engineering assignments with high proficiency and confidence. • Perform essential duties, including meeting deliverables and deadlines.
