Role Description Use your engineering expertise to make homes safer, more efficient, and more affordable. At CEDA of Cook County, Inc., our mission is to provide lifesaving resources to individuals and families across our community. Through our weatherization work, we help households reduce energy costs, improve comfort, and create healthier living environments. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support CEDA’s partnership with the State of Illinois Office of Community Assistance through the Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program. This role leads technical engineering work for multi-family weatherization projects across Illinois, with a focus on mechanical systems, energy conservation, quality control, compliance, and technical assistance. This is a great opportunity for an engineer who wants meaningful work, complex projects, and the chance to make a statewide impact. In this role, you will: - Review engineering reports, drawings, energy models, utility data, and project documentation. - Evaluate mechanical systems, building shell retrofits, and weatherization work for quality and compliance. - Conduct site inspections and prepare clear quality control reports. - Provide training and technical assistance to local agencies and program partners. - Support the use and review of TREAT energy modeling for multi-family weatherization projects. - Help strengthen statewide weatherization tools, processes, and technical guidance. Qualifications - A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. - At least two years of professional mechanical engineering experience. - Experience with energy conservation, weatherization, building systems, or multi-family projects. - Strong ability to review technical reports, drawings, audits, calculations, and compliance documentation. - Comfort working independently in a remote environment while collaborating with CEDA, the State of Illinois, and local agency partners. - Strong judgment, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills. - Experience with TREAT energy modeling, IHWAP standards, HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, refrigeration, or other mechanical systems is strongly preferred.
