Rent the Runway
Title: VP, Product Location: Brooklyn, NY (Rent the Runway HQ) Job Description: About Us: Rent the Runway (RTR) is transforming the way we get dressed by pioneering the world’s first Closet in the Cloud. Founded in 2009, RTR has disrupted the $2.4 trillion fashion industry by inspiring women with a more joyful, sustainable and financially-savvy way to feel their best every day. As the ultimate destination for circular fashion, the brand now offers infinite points of access to its shared closet via a fully customizable subscription to fashion, one-time rental or ownership. RTR offers designer apparel and accessories from hundreds of brand partners and has built in-house proprietary technology and a one-of-a-kind reverse logistics operation. RTR has been named to CNBC’s “Disruptor 50” five times in ten years, and has been placed on Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies list multiple times. About the Team: The RTR Product team is customer-obsessed, data-driven, and iterative. We're a set of owners who are energized by defining new behavior in the rental and shopping ecosystem and are constantly looking for new ways to delight our customers. We believe in and embody RTR’s core values - including thinking of ourselves as founders, dreaming big, being scrappy, fostering debate and honest conversations, and bringing our authentic selves to work every day. About the Role: As the Vice President of Product, you will lead the Product team for all of Rent the Runway. For our Subscription, One-Time Rental, and Resale businesses, you will define the future of our offerings, leading the teams to create delightful, personalized, friction-free experiences that feel like they’re built for each customer. You will manage and grow a team of product managers to deliver products and features that reflect our obsession with the big customer questions of our business: how do we help her get dressed, how do we make her feel great, how do we style her, and how do we speak to the different experiences she’s getting dressed for. You’ll work closely with Engineering, Design, Data Science, and other stakeholders across the major surfaces of the experience, improving the technical foundation as you improve the user experience. You will influence across and up, setting the vision for long-term investment in the products your team owns. You will also lead the evolution of our consumer platform and underlying systems, including discovery (search, browse, AI styling), personalization and recommendations, fit solutions, and merchandising tooling. This role requires both strategic leadership and hands-on execution to deliver meaningful customer and business impact. This is a full-time role reporting to a member of RTR’s Executive team and will be a member of the company’s extended senior leadership team. RTR currently operates on a Hybrid model, with employees working from our Dumbo office 4-days a week, and flexibly on Fridays. What You’ll Do: - Lead and develop a team of product managers setting and delivering on highly visible and company critical goals - Build cross-functional teams tasked with continuous product discovery and delivery - Cultivate a deep knowledge of the RTR customer, their pain points, and what makes them love their experience with RTR to create seamless and engaging user experiences - Prioritize rigorously across a number of business and technical investment areas - Build the systems, tools and processes that will enable your teams to succeed in the short- and long-terms - Define the right success metrics and set clear targets to constantly strive for improvement - Drive execution and ensure the team delivers the desired business outcomes efficiently - Build the cross-functional relationships with other orgs within RTR that will ensure your team is building alongside our other subject matter experts - Communicate plan and progress to key internal partners and executives. Actively listen and respond to feedback - Maintain a solid pulse on market trends and conduct ongoing evaluations of relevant 3rd party offerings, to ensure our systems and processes are best-in-class. - Contribute to creating a learning culture and a fun, rewarding workplace where people can realize their full potential About You: We are looking for a transformational Product leader with experience in platform thinking, creating strong partnerships, and who balances pragmatism with forward-thinking leadership. The right candidate will have a strong technical background coupled with good business sense, and will have knowledge of the latest AI technology to build the next generation of the RTR experience – from how customers discover, style, and rent items, to how we optimize our inventory, platform, and customer lifecycle. You have 10+ years of product management experience, including leading teams and product organizations. Preferably in e-commerce, B2C subscription businesses, or another area leading a company in a new direction via its product(s). - You are a confident and influential communicator. From engineers to executives, you know how to talk and listen in remote & in-person environments. You’re skilled at bringing stakeholders along in your decision-making process and are adept at telling a story that supports your recommendations and inspires teams. - You’re a relationship builder who engages well with stakeholders, understands their objectives and constraints and earns their trust. - You create vision and clarity from complexity and ambiguity. You are comfortable and energized by uncharted problems. - You’re constantly learning. You run experiments to validate assumptions and mitigate risks. You are flexible and able to change direction as you learn. - You're a builder. You are excited about creating new products that deliver significant business impact. - You are deeply familiar with AI-driven product experiences (search, recommendations, personalization, fit solutions). - You thrive in change. You are entrepreneurial in spirit with a passion for disruption. - You’re both a high level strategic thinker and a roll-up-your-sleeves operator who does what it takes to get things done and deliver results. - You're analytical. You turn data into actionable insights. - You enjoy getting technical. You’re comfortable working with engineers day-to-day and able to participate in technical discussions. You have basic knowledge of data structures, experiment design, and using self-service analytics tools (like Google Analytics or Looker) to make decisions. - You have experience working in scrum/agile management methodologies.
