• Partner closely with Valuation, Assumptions, Accounting Policy, Pricing and Risk Management teams in the development of sustainable annuity projection models • Implement processes, infrastructure and controls to ensure accurate and timely delivery of annuity projection models and results • Examples of model development work include, but are not limited to: US GAAP including LDTI Life Statutory and Capital Economic Valuation and Economic Capital • Implementing, quantifying and reviewing assumption and model updates • Finance Modernization initiatives to improve processes, controls, and analytics • Ensure compliance with company model architecture standards and change management governance processes

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Statistics and/or Actuarial Science
  • Good progress in SOA papers preferred
  • 3+ years of modeling, valuation and/or pricing experience
  • Hands-on experience working with life products
  • Experience building and improving actuarial models (Moody’s AXIS preferred)

The role of the Disability Assistant is to communicate with claimants and clients as it relates to initiating a claim or the status of a claim; to ensure claim documents are processed when received and to send out all documentation for claims in a timely manner; and to follow the initial claims process procedures for claims received. What you'll do: - Answer incoming calls from claimants and employees to assist with leave of absence applications, short-term disability reporting, and claim status inquiries. - Work in a fast-paced environment where you'll juggle multiple tasks—answering calls, processing documents, and updating case notes—while maintaining accuracy and meeting tight timeframes. - Process incoming documents and reviews FMLA and STD documents received to determine if all necessary information has been provided to proceed with claim assignment/processing. - Inform claimants of documentation required to process claims, required timeframes, and claims status either by phone, written correspondence, and/or claims system when inquiry is received. - Update claim notes with appropriate claim and certification information. - Assist Case Managers and Nurse Consultants as needed. - Follow all processes as laid out in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and/or as detailed in training/meetings. - Other projects and tasks as assigned. Qualifications - 2+ years of customer-facing experience (call center, retail, or similar fast-paced customer service roles where you've managed multiple tasks and interacted with diverse customers). - High School Diploma. - Strong interpersonal and helping skills along with assessment and problem-solving skills. - Excellent computer skills and the ability to work primarily online in a paperless environment. - Reliable high-speed internet connection and a quiet home workspace. This credentialed healthcare actuary would drive high-visibility impactful analysis and would be responsible for developing and driving medical cost improvement strategies for UPMC Health Plan in collaboration with leadership. - Develop and evaluate financial outcomes of value-based contracts. - Analyze medical cost utilization and unit cost data. - Identify top trend drivers of contract performance. - Develop strategies across cross-functional teams such as Network, Actuarial, Finance, and Clinical. - Support the execution of those strategies. - Supervise 2-3 supporting staff, including actuarial analysts. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, economics, or related field required; advanced degree preferred. - ASA certification by Society of Actuaries required; FSA preferred. - 6.5 years of experience in progressively more responsible actuarial work in health insurance/managed care or equivalent training/education. - Experience in development and settlement of value-based provider contracts, network and reimbursement methodology analysis, claims-based experience analysis, trend analysis is a strong preference. - Experience with commercial and government health programs preferred. - In-depth understanding of health insurance market dynamics. - Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. - Good oral and written communication skills. - Adaptability and ability to prioritize effectively. - Strong PC skills. - Data retrieval skills and relational database experience. - Management experience preferred.
