EAL Teacher
Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE)
• The EAL Teacher is responsible for teaching virtual EAL classes, and providing tutoring to NSISP students with low level English in grades 7-12. • The EAL teacher will be expected to develop and implement lesson plans that support students with improving their English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
Job Requirements
- Valid Teaching Certificate recognized by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development OR EAL teaching qualifications that are recognized by TESL Canada.
- Previous experience teaching EAL in Canada or abroad.
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, and demonstrated excellence in teaching.
- Experience with virtual EAL instruction and use of Google Classroom is considered an asset.

• Remotely teach at least 1 AP subject course to a small class of students. • Deliver 2-3 hours of live instruction + office hours each week during the academic year. • Craft engaging asynchronous learning activities and assignments to help students stay ahead of the pace and successfully make it through all AP course content. • Utilize our LMS (Canvas) and video conferencing platform (BigBlueButton) to deliver all live instruction, course content, assessments, and communication. • Deliver instruction using your own proven methods and materials within the confines of the AP course guides.
• Planning, preparing, and teaching online lessons (45 minutes each) for corporate clients. • Deliver private lessons that include both language teaching and personalised coaching - conducting needs analyses, assessing levels, creating bespoke learning paths, checking progress during lesson time, and setting clear goals. • Teach online group classes that focus on active learning and communication.
