Role Description Axiom, the leading global provider of on‑demand legal talent, is partnering with an international insurtech firm to support its Office of General Counsel. In this role, you will lead the legal and compliance agenda across Australia and New Zealand, serving as a strategic advisor to regional leadership. Your work will shape the organisation’s legal posture, ensure regulatory readiness, and guide compliant market entry throughout the ANZ region. You will also strengthen the company’s legal and regulatory foundations to support operational integrity and scalable growth, balancing risk management with business enablement to drive innovation and long‑term expansion. - Provide practical legal guidance on Australian insurance, financial services, and regulatory requirements, including ASIC, APRA, and AFSL obligations, while supporting market entry across ANZ. - Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements such as NDAs, distribution agreements, addendums, renewals, and terminations. - Advise on product design, distribution structures, customer outcomes, and regulatory developments to ensure legal, commercial, and compliance alignment. - Act as the primary interface with regulators in Australia and New Zealand, coordinating filings, notices, responses, and required reporting. - Implement and enhance compliance frameworks, governance controls, AFSL maintenance, conduct oversight, breach management, and operational compliance. - Maintain accurate legal records, prepare research and reports, support Group OGC initiatives, and build scalable legal and compliance practices as the business grows. Qualifications - Law degree from a recognised Australian university, admission to practice, and 5–8 years’ experience in a law firm or in‑house legal team. - Practical experience managing AFSL obligations for an insurance brokerage, including licence conditions, governance, representative oversight, breach assessment, and regulatory reporting. - Strong drafting, negotiation, and legal research abilities, with clear written and verbal communication that translates complex issues for commercial stakeholders. - High accuracy, confidentiality, and reliability, with a proactive, pragmatic, business‑oriented approach and the ability to build strong relationships in a global environment. Requirements - Law degree from a recognised Australian university, admission to practice, and 5–8 years’ experience in a law firm or in‑house legal team. - Practical experience managing AFSL obligations for an insurance brokerage, including licence conditions, governance, representative oversight, breach assessment, and regulatory reporting. - Strong drafting, negotiation, and legal research abilities, with clear written and verbal communication that translates complex issues for commercial stakeholders. - High accuracy, confidentiality, and reliability, with a proactive, pragmatic, business‑oriented approach and the ability to build strong relationships in a global environment.
