Role Description This is a remote consulting opportunity supporting a government client. Subcontractor Opportunity: This is not an employee position. The successful consultant must be incorporated and able to provide services through their corporation. The Senior Data Communications Administrator provides advanced technical leadership in the design, implementation, and ongoing support of enterprise network and communications infrastructure. The role is responsible for ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performance connectivity across large-scale distributed environments, including LAN, MAN, and WAN networks. Operating within a complex environment that includes remote and bandwidth-constrained communities, the role supports network operations, troubleshooting, optimization, and modernization initiatives. The Senior Data Communications Administrator plays a key role in maintaining enterprise network services, mentoring technical staff, and ensuring continuity of critical operations. Key Responsibilities - Provide advanced support for network maintenance, planning, and implementation across enterprise WAN environments - Install, configure, and maintain network hardware including Cisco ISR, Nexus, Catalyst, ASA, and wireless controllers - Ensure stability and performance of distributed LAN, MAN, and WAN environments - Support connectivity across various last-mile technologies including satellite and network services - Implement and optimize routing, switching, wireless, and firewall configurations - Support deployment and optimization of network monitoring platforms including Cisco Prime, Cisco DNA, ACS, ISE, and LiveAction - Support and maintain network security solutions including Cisco Firepower, Palo Alto, Zscaler, and BlueCoat - Perform advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for network issues - Provide Tier 3 support for escalated incidents across the enterprise - Provide mentorship and guidance to technical staff and regional technicians - Create and maintain technical documentation for network configurations and procedures - Contribute to modernization and optimization of enterprise network environments Key Deliverables - Stable and optimized enterprise network infrastructure - Network configuration and architecture documentation - Incident resolution reports and root-cause analyses - Monitoring and performance optimization reports - Security and content filtering configurations - Recommendations for network improvements and modernization Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field considered an asset - Certifications in networking such as Cisco CCNP or CCIE considered an asset - Certifications in network security technologies considered an asset - Additional training in network monitoring, WAN optimization, or security platforms considered an asset Requirements - Proven experience configuring, deploying, and administering large enterprise network environments - Hands-on experience with Cisco networking hardware including ISR, Nexus, Catalyst, ASA, and wireless platforms - Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills - Experience working in distributed LAN, MAN, and WAN environments - Experience with network monitoring tools such as Cisco Prime, DNA, ISE, and LiveAction - Experience supporting content filtering and security solutions including Zscaler, Palo Alto, and BlueCoat - Ability to work independently and in high-pressure environments - Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills - Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience considered an asset

The role will also support Mitacs Executive members, crafting remarks and media briefings, as well as cultivating opportunities for Mitacs leadership in the media through pitching, op-ed development and other thought leadership opportunities. The successful candidate is a fluently bilingual communications professional, with experience crafting strategic communications in both French and English. They are a strategic communicator, experienced writer and editor with sound judgment, strong attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex information into clear, compelling, and audience-focused communications materials.   Responsibilities - Strategic Communications Support:Leads the development and execution of strategic communications initiatives and materials aligned with organizational priorities and communications objectives.
