We are seeking an experienced System Design Engineer Avionics based at Gallipoli Barracks in Enoggera, Brisbane to join our CH-47F Chinook Embedded Workforce as a key contributor to the CH-47F Engineering In-Service Program. In this important role, you will help ensure the continued airworthiness and operational readiness of the aircraft. Responsibilities As an Avionics Engineer within BDA, you will: - Participate in the integration of externally approved software and avionics modifications on the CH-47F fleet. - Develop local design changes within scope of Engineering Authority. - Support all aspects of the CH-47F Health and Usage Monitoring System (Cargo Platform Health Environment (CPHE). - Support all aspects of the CH-47F Mission Planning software (AMPS), and the Army Aviation Common Mission Management System (CMMS). - Support the establishment of Data Usage and Analysis capability. - Support the Maintenance Support Devices (MSD). - Technical Information (TI) handling; registration, review of applicability, Safety Alert Information (SAI) and actions. - Develop and review Certification Program Plan (21.A.17 and local Design Manual procedures). Experience/Qualifications To be successful in this role you will have: - Bachelor of Engineering in Avionics, Software, Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics - Minimum of Two (2) years Avionics Engineering experience. - Experience in Software and Network integration and troubleshooting. - Knowledge and experience in system safety and risk management. - Understanding of configuration management principles. - Experience in aircraft sustainment engineering and technical support. - Ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 Defence Security Clearance. Desirable: - Previous Defence service/Defence aerospace experience. - Completion of DASR 21, Part M, Type cert courses. - Experience with other weapon systems. • The Project Support Engineer must be capable of working on their own initiative to ensure our deliverables are aligned and met in delivery of our physical security solutions and connected devices services to the client. • You will provide a range of varying activities from design support, programming, evaluation, commissioning, call-out, maintenance and verification of electronic security systems to ensure it complies with Microsoft requirements and standards. • Ensure all processes are optimized and continually aligned to the Microsoft requirements in delivery of their service by continually looking to adapt, refine and improve the effectiveness of the service delivery and reporting model. • This will be achieved using after action reviews, vendor assessment, audit results, analysis of data, lessons learnt, corrective and preventive actions and management review. • Provide input to Global Shared Services Regional Group Lead to ensure technical documents and standards are updated. • Maintain accurate, up to date trackers/reporting tools and provide Daily, Weekly, Monthly reporting metrics demonstrating your activity, value, and impact. • Where needed support the security consultant by reviewing innovative technology/programming solutions. • Validate the SSR (Where special equipment or programming requirements have been defined outside of the EDPR), provide special connection diagrams and programming instructions to support the above. • Verify that the sites naming convention and alarm priorities etc. are in alignment with the EDPR. • Review the programming sheet on submission for accuracy, highlighting any discrepancies back to the PDM. • Program the system in accordance with the finalised programming sheet and the EDPR guidelines. • Provide support to the PDM and security vendor with any technical related items. • Configure the LNVR and Network switches in alignment with our standards and processes.

• Manage our networking and server hardware, topology, and connectivity in our physical data centers and cloud • Design and build network telemetry, monitoring, and observability • Build and maintain an automated change management pipeline to deploy network configuration revisions and provision hardware • Ensure critical services operate reliably by triaging and fixing operational issues as an on-call engineer, participating in post-mortems and implementing improvements to prevent future issues • Make and collaborate on key decisions regarding the evolution of our infrastructure, such as our hybrid cloud architecture • Be responsible for liaising with third parties, vendors and internet service providers as well as traveling to our Bay Area and New Jersey data centers and offices for onsite networking projects

Role Description We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Optical Engineer/System Architect to lead the design, development, and testing of advanced free-space optical (FSO) communication systems leveraging novel optical technology. The position requires work at the intersection of photonics, laser systems, and space/airborne communications to build next-generation terminals for terrestrial, airborne, and space-based platforms. - Lead AOA and conceptual design of laser communication terminals and subsystems, including optical benches, beam steering modules, and acquisition/tracking mechanisms. - Develop link budgets, simulate end-to-end optical communication performance, and optimize for SWaP-C constraints. - Derive requirements for component selection, integration, and system-level validation (e.g., lasers, modulators, beam expanders, fiber optics). - Collaborate with electrical, RF, mechanical, and software external teams to integrate optical comm systems into airborne or space-qualified platforms. - Support optical alignment, calibration, and test (including pointing, tracking, and acquisition) in lab and field settings. - Engage in customer briefings, system requirement definition, and roadmap planning for optical comm architectures. - Author technical documents, system specs, and support IP and proposal development. Qualifications - M.S. or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. - 7+ years of experience in EO/IR systems engineering, free-space optical communication, or directed energy systems. - Hands-on expertise in laser systems, optical alignment, and fiber-coupled systems. - Familiarity with optical simulation tools (e.g., Zemax, Code V, FRED) and MATLAB/Python. - Experience with optical communication protocols and pointing/tracking systems for free space optical communication or other applications. - Understanding optical link impairments, turbulence effects, and acquisition/tracking strategies. Requirements - Experience with space-qualified optical systems or flight hardware. - Knowledge of standards like CCSDS or optical inter-satellite link (OISL) protocols. - Familiarity with SWIR/MWIR optics, MEMS beam steering, or Risley prisms. - Background in secure communications, encryption, or waveform design. - Active security clearance or ability to obtain one.
