• Lead technical activities for the design, engineering, and construction of power plants utilizing natural gas reciprocating engines and/or gas turbines. • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for electrical systems associated with power generation facilities, including generator electrical interfaces, medium- and high-voltage distribution, switchgear, transformers, motor control, grounding, protective relaying, lighting, raceway, and plant auxiliary systems. • Set and document the electrical basis of design, develop the electrical scope of work, and define key system requirements and performance criteria. • Guide and review technical deliverables from external contractors; provide clear engineering inputs and participate in design, review, and coordination sessions. • Collaborate with other technical disciplines (mechanical, civil, controls, piping, and interconnection teams) to ensure project integration and completeness. • Support the procurement process by preparing electrical equipment specifications, contributing to vendor selection and technical evaluations, and making vendor recommendations. • Support contractor and vendor solicitation processes through development of technical scopes, review of bid packages, technical evaluation of proposals, and equipment recommendations. • Review engineering documents such as single-line diagrams, load lists, relay coordination studies, short-circuit studies, grounding studies, area classifications, design drawings, technical specifications, and analysis reports; participate actively in design and technical review meetings. • Ensure designs comply with applicable utility, grid interconnection, safety, and industry standards and support overall plant reliability, operability, and maintainability. • Effectively coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, ensuring adherence to schedule and quality standards. • Demonstrate deep technical understanding of power generation electrical systems and continuously monitor technological advancements relevant to natural gas power generation. • Support construction, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities related to plant electrical systems. • Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams and support the development of junior engineers through mentoring, coaching, and design guidance.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent strongly preferred.
- 8 or more years of progressive experience in electrical engineering roles within the power generation, oil and gas, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Extensive technical expertise in the design, construction, and operation of natural gas power plants, with in-depth knowledge of electrical systems for reciprocating engine and gas turbine facilities, including simple cycle and combined cycle configurations where applicable.
- Proven experience in reviewing and validating complex electrical designs from EPC contractors for large-scale projects.
- Strong knowledge of medium-voltage and high-voltage power systems, generator interconnection, protection and control philosophies, relay coordination and settings development, plant distribution systems, motor control, and power system studies.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards such as NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, NEC, NESC, and utility or interconnection requirements.
- Experience leading detailed design reviews and providing technical oversight for major electrical systems on utility-scale power generation projects; engineer-of-record experience is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and provide strong technical leadership.
