Senior Editor – Mortgage Content Lead

• Serve as Ratehub's primary subject matter expert for mortgages and real estate, representing the brand in media opportunities; support the Communications team with expert commentary, data points, and timely insights for media pitches and press opportunities • Bring on-camera and on-mic presence to video content and media interviews; comfort in front of a camera is a strong asset • Strengthen Ratehub's authority in the mortgage space by producing/writing exceptional, accurate, and timely original content across formats including media contributions, landing pages, blog posts, newsletters, videos, and social media • Develop content that provides unique analysis and insights and reflects current market conditions, rate movements, and consumer needs — not just evergreen education • Liaise regularly with Ratehub's mortgage brokerage team to stay current on rate trends, lender strategy, and market shifts, and translate those insights into timely content updates • Maintain and refresh existing content on an ongoing basis — including blogs, FAQs, and landing pages — leveraging internal resources and freelancers where appropriate • Incorporate SEO and GEO best practices into all content, with particular rigour on landing pages and high-traffic pages • Set, document, and uphold Ratehub's editorial voice and style standards across all formats, channels, and contributors • Establish and maintain editorial policies, workflows, and governance frameworks that scale across staff writers, freelancers, and cross-functional contributors • Own and manage the editorial and social media calendar, balancing timely rate and market coverage with long-term content strategy and ensuring that all published content meets accuracy, compliance, and regulatory standards relevant to Canadian financial products • Review, edit, and approve work from writers, freelancers, and subject matter experts to maintain a consistently high editorial bar • Develop and maintain deep expertise in Canadian personal finance — mortgage rates, insurance, credit cards, banking, and investing — to provide credible editorial oversight • Own content QA processes, including fact-checking, link auditing, structural reviews, and scheduled content refreshes • Use performance data — organic traffic, keyword rankings,GEO metrics, engagement, and conversion signals — to inform editorial priorities and identify content gaps • Brief, onboard, and manage freelance contributors, including scope definition, quality oversight, and feedback • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, marketing, and data teams to ensure content reflects live product and rate information accurately • Serve as the lead on sponsored content production, acting as the primary point of contact between the external partnership team and the content team
Job Requirements
- 6–10 years of editorial experience
- Demonstrated expertise in personal finance content, with a strong preference for candidates with a mortgage or real estate focus
- Experience working in a digital-first media environment, fintech, financial services, or a high-volume content operation
- Post-secondary education in journalism, communications, English, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to make complex financial topics clear and compelling for a Canadian consumer audience
- Deep familiarity with Canadian mortgage products, rate structures, lending regulations, and the broader real estate landscape strongly preferred
- Proven ability to manage a high volume of content across multiple formats simultaneously — articles, landing pages, newsletters, social, and video scripts
- Strong command of Canadian AP or CP style, with experience developing and maintaining in-house style guides
- Solid working knowledge of SEO best practices, including keyword research, on-page optimization, internal linking, and content structuring for search
- Familiarity with GEO (generative engine optimization) and how AI-powered search is changing content strategy
- Comfortable using tools such as Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Semrush, PEEC or similar platforms to inform editorial decisions
- Ability to interpret content performance data and translate it into actionable editorial priorities
- Experience mentoring content writers/strategists, with a track record of raising the quality of a team's output
- Skilled at briefing and managing freelance contributors, including providing clear, constructive editorial feedback
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with marketing, product, and analytics teams
- Strong project management instincts — able to juggle competing deadlines, shifting priorities, and multiple stakeholders without dropping the ball
- Confident communicator with experience serving as a brand spokesperson or subject matter expert in media contexts
- On-camera and on-mic experience an asset — comfortable participating in video content, podcast appearances, or broadcast interviews
- Strong relationships within Canadian financial media or journalism circles an asset
- Proficiency with a CMS (WordPress or similar), project management tools (Asana, Notion, or similar), and standard editorial collaboration tools
- Experience with AI writing and editing tools, and a thoughtful perspective on how to use them responsibly in an editorial context.
