Role Description The Knowledge Architect is responsible for the structural design, technical governance, and AI-enhanced evolution of HealthStream’s competency-based knowledge system. This role operates at the intersection of knowledge engineering, data architecture, and applied artificial intelligence—owning the foundational systems that organize, surface, and deliver clinical and professional knowledge across HealthStream’s product ecosystem. - Define how knowledge is structured, classified, stored, and accessed. - Lead the technical effort to integrate AI-enhanced capabilities that improve the scale, accuracy, and intelligence of the system. - Design taxonomies, govern metadata standards, evaluate and implement AI/ML techniques such as large language models and semantic search. - Partner with engineering teams to build robust, API-driven knowledge infrastructure. - Approximately 10–15% travel is required to support partner engagements, attend workshops and industry conferences, and collaborate with offsite colleagues. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in related field. - 5 or more years of experience in knowledge engineering, information architecture, data architecture, or a closely related discipline. - Hands-on experience applying AI/ML techniques. - Software development lifecycle and Software as a Service (SaaS) experience strongly preferred. - Experience designing and governing enterprise APIs and metadata-driven systems strongly preferred. Requirements - Ability to model and represent knowledge structures, including hierarchical classification systems. - Proficiency with AI/ML tooling and frameworks. - Proficiency with technical documentation and diagramming tools. - Ability to translate complex architectural decisions into clear guidance for product, engineering, and clinical stakeholders. - Ownership mentality—willing to lead through ambiguity and take accountability for system quality and outcomes. - Intellectual curiosity and openness to evolving methodologies in AI and knowledge engineering. - Establishes high level of credibility and trust internally through demonstrated expertise and sound judgment. - Works effectively within a matrixed, cross-functional organization—collaborating across product, engineering, clinical, and data teams. - Motivates and guides both direct reports and non-direct collaborators toward shared technical and organizational goals. - Influences architectural and product decisions across functional areas without relying on formal authority. - Demonstrates systems-level critical thinking—capable of modeling complex interdependencies and anticipating downstream effects of architectural choices. - Presents technical concepts to clinical and executive audiences with strong communication and active listening skills. - Responds to technical setbacks and evolving requirements with a constructive, solution-focused approach. - Plans and executes complex, multi-workstream initiatives with minimal supervision and appropriate prioritization.
