• Own the legal department budget: planning, tracking, forecasting, and variance analysis in partnership with Finance. • Oversee outside counsel management program, including managing firm relationships, including the enforcement of outside counsel guidelines, rate negotiations, and matter budgets. • Serve as primary administrator for e-billing platform and matter management system; ensure data integrity and train legal team on tools. • Own the monthly accruals process in partnership with Finance, tracking unbilled outside counsel spend, gathering estimates from law firms, and ensuring accurate reporting at close. • Lead vendor selection and RFP processes for legal technology and outside counsel panels. • Evaluate and implement AI and automation tools to reduce administrative burden on attorneys • Build and maintain dashboards and reporting on legal spend for leadership. • Identify and implement process improvements across legal workflows • Identify, design, and implement process improvements to enhance Legal’s scalability, efficiency, and impact. • Serve as a trusted partner and thought leader to attorneys and business stakeholders on operational best practices.
Role Description Labor and Employment provides legal advice, counsel and services in the areas of labor and employment law. This job family partners with business leaders and Employee & Labor Relations professionals to identify potential legal issues and provides legal advice to mitigate employment and labor risks. This position will work directly with Cardinal Health’s Management Services Organizations (MSO). Location: - Open to candidates based nationwide, operating in a fully remote capacity (preference towards those living within a commutable distance of our corporate HQ in Central Ohio, though this is not a requirement). Responsibilities: - Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of Labor & Employment (L&E) laws, regulations and principles. - Provide legal counsel on L&E matters affecting MSOs, physician practices, medical groups, and provider organizations. - Provide legal counsel related to physician/advanced practice provider employment agreements and independent contractor agreements. - Advise on physician compensation structures, including productivity-based compensation, wRVU models, incentive plans, quality metrics, and FMV/commercial reasonableness. - Provide guidance related to regulatory risks associated with physician arrangements, including fraud and abuse considerations and changing reimbursement environments. - Draft briefing materials and other strategic presentations intended for department or company leadership regarding L&E matters. - Advise clients, strategize and recommend course of action on day-to-day employment issues including hiring, discipline, performance management and termination. - Conduct and lead internal investigations into employee complaints/claims. - Collect and organize documents and manage case discovery process for active litigation matters. - Liaise as needed with internal functional groups, including business units, Tax, Treasury, Risk Management, Human Resources, IT and Finance, as well as other members of the Legal Department. - Work directly with outside counsel as needed and manage active litigation matters. - Manage high volume of e-mails and daily meetings/calls. - Must be able to issue-spot, evaluate risk and provide strategic guidance to HR and business leaders while taking into account both legal and business considerations. - Must be able to collaborate with HR and the business leaders to build broad-based support and persuade others. - Must ensure that internal clients have a positive experience; commits to meet or exceed internal client expectations. - Must proactively develop and maintain technical knowledge in specialized area(s), remaining up-to-date on current L&E laws and best practices. - Must proactively identify legal trends and propose ways to respond.
