Assistant Controller
GRF CPAs & Advisors
• Manage various aspects of the monthly close process including reconciliations, preparation of supporting schedules, financial analysis, quality review, and financial reporting. • Apply strong knowledge of accrual basis accounting to enter and review transactions, resolve variances, and ensure accurate general ledger management. • Utilize, train, and implement cloud-based accounting tools such as Bill.com, Expensify, and other platforms commonly used by government contractors. • Coordinate different phases of engagements with supervisors or managers, review workpapers for accuracy and completeness, and maintain clear client communication. • Provide oversight and coaching to staff accountants; offer guidance, feedback, and support professional development. • Assist clients with understanding financial statements, compliance with government contracting requirements, indirect rate calculations, and cost accounting standards. • Ensure deliverables are prepared in accordance with applicable accounting standards and firm protocols. • Maintain strong client relationships and prioritize responsive, high-quality service delivery.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in public accounting or private industry, with progressive responsibility. Experience with government contractors strongly preferred. Prior CPA firm experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and Unanet required or strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with cloud-based tools such as Bill.com, Expensify, or similar platforms.
- Working knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) compliance is a plus but not required.
- Ability to manage competing priorities across diverse client accounts.
- Strong organizational, communication, and team leadership skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism.

• Lead and oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and revenue recognition • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP • Partner closely with the SVP of Finance to support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to support scale and mitigate risk • Manage external relationships including auditors, tax advisors, and other financial service providers, and lead annual audit and tax processes • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions • Support system implementations and optimizations (e.g., ERP, accounting, payroll, or expense systems) as the company grows • Build, mentor, and develop a strong accounting team, fostering accountability, accuracy, and a culture of continuous improvement • Provide financial insight and guidance to cross-functional leaders to support sound business decisions
