Role Description Chainlink Labs is seeking Research Interns to support its mission of building the world’s most secure and flexible decentralized oracle technologies. Research Engineers will work directly with top domain experts in applied cryptography, mechanism design (cryptoeconomics), distributed systems, and other disciplines to identify and solve key research challenges and build production solutions that keep Chainlink at the forefront of oracle system deployment and fuel the success of the smart contract ecosystem. - Working with Chainlink core engineering to identify short- and long-term research challenges critical to the company’s success and to transition innovations from Chainlink Labs into production. - Working with research scientists and technical advisors to study, invent, and build cutting-edge oracle technologies for the benefit of the company and community. - Staying abreast of the evolution of relevant technology ecosystems and participating in relevant technical communities for more effective application development and to guide research toward practical and impactful work. Qualifications - B.S. in computer science or equivalent professional experience along with coursework in algorithms and data structures and discrete math. - Familiarity with academic process and ability to engage with existing literature on relevant research topics, e.g. by performing literature searches and comprehending papers in a wider context. - Professional software development experience is required. Requirements - Advanced computer science or related degree, coursework in applied and theoretical cryptography, mechanism design, distributed systems, or related fields. - Familiarity with Go or Rust. - Broad knowledge of blockchain technologies and familiarity specifically with smart contracts. Role Description You will help foster a culture of policy research excellence to ensure high quality knowledge products across WRI India that contributes to its mission and goals. You will oversee the peer-review process for products assigned to you and will stand up for quality in a fast-paced and dynamic policy research organization. You will derive satisfaction from helping others succeed. You will also maintain an active interest in research and publishing. You will mentor research staff, develop and provide research training and ensure ethical research and data practices. You will work closely with the WRI India programs to help connect the dots between problem definition, research design, evidence building and country and program strategies. You will be supported by the rest of the Research Integrity team in India and by colleagues across WRI’s global network. You will report to the Director of Research Integrity, at WRI India. What you will do: - Ensure that all WRI India-branded knowledge products meet WRI India’s quality standards and are designed to deliver actionable results (50% of time) - Work with Global and India RI teams to oversee the peer review process for WRI India knowledge and data products - Use expert judgement to ensure that all WRI India-branded knowledge products meet WRI India quality standards for research integrity - Advise on research design (problem definition, questions, methodology), methods, data analysis and interpretation. Inter-disciplinary graduate training in both natural and social sciences is a plus. - 10-12 years of post-undergraduate experience (this includes time spent pursuing your Ph.D.) conducting policy-relevant research related to environment and development and at least 5+ years in teaching and overseeing junior researchers. - Strong analytical skills, inter-disciplinary training, preferably at the master’s level, and a commitment to policy-relevant research and communication. - Demonstrated interest in sustainable and equitable development, with experience in any one or more of the three human systems (viz., Food-land-water; Energy; Cities) and three enabling systems (Finance, Economics, and Governance) across which WRI India’s work is organized. - Demonstrated knowledge and curiosity about research design and methodology, experience in research methods (quantitative and/or qualitative), and experience with inter-disciplinary policy relevant research. - Experience publishing in high-quality international journals or other peer-reviewed venues. And experience reviewing for international journals or other peer-reviewed outlets. - Demonstrated ability and willingness to mentor, advise and support research teams with different levels of research experience, to give constructive feedback and to clearly explain reasons behind decisions. - A strong understanding of critical environmental and development challenges in India, a natural curiosity and interest in keeping current with the latest research, data and evidence and policies relevant to WRI India’s mission and work. - Is invited as a speaker on panels and webinars in area of expertise. - Excellent oral and written English skills.
