Linux Systems Administrator

WRS Health

• Manage, monitor, and maintain Debian-based Linux systems in production environments. • Design, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure, primarily in AWS (EC2, IAM, VPC, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, etc.). • Implement and maintain infrastructure automation using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or AWS CDK. • Write and maintain scripts (e.g., Bash, Python) to automate routine operations and enhance system reliability. • Ensure system performance, availability, and security, addressing incidents and resolving issues promptly. • Configure and manage monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, AWS CloudWatch). • Support containerized environments and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, ECS, EKS, Fargate). • Collaborate with engineering and development teams to support CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows. • Maintain proper documentation and version control using Git and ensure best practices are followed.

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience as a Linux System Administrator or in a similar role.
  • Proven experience managing Debian Linux distributions in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of AWS services (e.g., EC2, IAM, VPC, S3, RDS, CloudWatch).
  • Hands-on experience with automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, or AWS CDK.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or similar.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, firewalls, DNS, and load balancers.
  • Experience with monitoring/logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch.
  • Knowledge of containerization (EKS, Docker, ECS, Fargate) is a plus.
  • Comfortable with version control systems (e.g., Git).

Role Description The employee will serve as the Supervisory Health System Specialist, located in the National Care Coordination, Veterans Crisis Line (VCL), Veterans Affair (VA). The VCL is a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week, 365-days-a-year service aimed at connecting callers worldwide to a caring, qualified Veterans Administration employee. The VCL's mission is to provide 24/7, world-class suicide prevention and crisis intervention services to Veterans, Service Members and their family members. - Supervise a team of Health System Specialist and serve as the liaison between the team and leadership. - Organize and execute plans to enhance the understanding of how various roles can be applied in VCL or other areas of Veterans Health Administration as the point of contact and subject matter expert on NCC service to internal/external partners. - Schedule, plan and provide subordinates with the requirements and descriptions of the work to be performed, while tracking progress daily. - Set priorities, quarterly goals, and annual goals of employees. Develop performance standards. - Provide expert level consultation and coaching to ensure excellence and consistency in quality and practice. - Provide advice, counsel, and instruct employees on work and administrative matters. - Communicate with Union partners concerning programmatic changes or exchanging of information. - Provide consultation in area of expertise to the NCC Director in pre-decisional and decisional management proposals and projects. - Integrate program evaluation data and expertise in services to make recommendations, develop, and implement continuous improvement efforts in VCL. - Collaborate with leadership and external leaders in the field of research and practice to create, execute, and evaluate innovative practices to advance the field of services, while maintaining gold standard veteran safety practices. - Draft writings for presentations, internal job aids, and other communications. - Manage program wide efforts or projects addressing ongoing improvements and innovations in the delivery of services. - Manage the development and update of policies and processes in response to changes in government legislation and guidance in all areas of NCC program development and continuous improvement. Requirements - Tour of Duty is typically Administrative Hours. Tour is subject to change based on program needs. - Compressed/Flexible Work Schedule may be authorized upon supervisor approval after training per Agency policy. - This is a remote position. Selectees will work 100% of the time in a non-VA-owned space outside of the local commuting area of a parent station. - The employee's workspace must be suitable for conducting business and provide a secure, distraction-free home-based worksite with reliable high-speed internet connectivity. - The employee will be required to travel to the closest VA Medical Center or VA Outpatient Clinic for issuance of equipment, and as needed for technical support. - Selectees will be required to self-certify that their remote workplace meets all safety, privacy, and internet speed requirements.
