Forwardly Deployed Engineer (Senior) About the Role We’re looking for a senior Forwardly Deployed Engineer to serve as the primary technical point of contact for Salve clients. In this role, you’ll partner directly with operators and executives to understand business challenges, design integration solutions, build and maintain workflows, and own delivery from kickoff through ongoing optimization. This is a hybrid role by design: part engineer, part technical consultant, part client partner. One hour, you might be leading a client call about operational bottlenecks; the next, you might be configuring a workflow, debugging a sync issue, writing data transformations, or extending an integration. You will be the face of Salve in client-facing meetings, so exceptional English communication skills — both written and verbal — are essential. You should be articulate, confident, professional on camera, and comfortable engaging with both executive stakeholders and day-to-day operators. Internally, you’ll work closely with Salve leadership and cross-functional teams, including the CTO and Head Engineer for technical direction, the Business Analyst on requirements, the Head of Customer Ops on client communication, and the CEO on roadmap and contractual changes. You’ll also collaborate with engineering and data teams to deliver solutions and turn field insights into product improvements. What You'll Do - Own client relationships across onboarding, implementation, ongoing delivery, and strategic roadmapping - Translate business requirements into technical specifications, platform configurations, and scalable integration designs - Build, deploy, and maintain integration applets across the Salve platform (Apollo/APL), including data mappings, API configurations, and workflow logic - Support and extend retail and ecommerce integrations, including connector setup, webhook management, payment and tax configuration, and troubleshooting - Triage and resolve production issues across client integrations, including EDI processing, ERP sync failures, POS data discrepancies, and compliance-related edge cases - Debug and improve data flows across APIs, webhooks, ETL/ELT pipelines, and internal platform components - Document solutions, maintain client-specific runbooks, and contribute to internal knowledge bases - Partner with engineering to improve the platform based on patterns, pain points, and opportunities identified in the field - Leverage AI to set up codebases that are AI optimized for fast turnaround, deployment of custom applets, automated workflows, etc. What We’re Looking For - 5+ years of experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, forwardly deployed engineering, technical consulting, or a similar hybrid client-facing technical role - Experience with one or more of PHP/Laravel, Python, Typescript, Vue/React, MySQL/Postgres, or similar - Located within 2 hours of US Eastern Time, with reliable overlap during EST business hours - Exceptional English communication skills, written and verbal; this is a highly client-facing role with regular video calls - Strong knowledge of integration patterns and systems, including REST APIs, webhooks, ETL/ELT, EDI, and data transformation - Comfortable leading client conversations, building trust with senior stakeholders, and translating ambiguity into action - Strong technical troubleshooting ability across integrations, sync failures, and distributed data flows - Self-directed and highly accountable; you can operate effectively without heavy process or detailed day-to-day oversight - Brings humility, professionalism, and a collaborative attitude that teammates and clients enjoy working with - Experience operating at a senior level, with the judgment to context-switch across clients, prioritize effectively, and push back on scope when necessary - The ability to leverage AI to set up codebases that are AI optimized for fast turnaround, deployment of custom applets, automated workflows, etc. Nice to Have's - Hands-on experience integrating eCommerce platforms, retail/POS systems, ERPs, and data platforms such as NetSuite, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and Snowflake - Familiarity with compliance systems or seed-to-sale platforms - Experience with dbt, Airflow, Astronomer, or other modern data stack tools - Background at a startup, consultancy, or similarly fast-moving environment where you wore multiple hats Rate and Terms This is a fully remote position, with required working-hour overlap within 2 hours of US Eastern Time. Occasional travel for client onboarding or team on-sites may be requested. The salary range for this full-time, remote position is $100,000–$130,000 per year. This range reflects the expected compensation based on various factors, including relevant experience, skills, seniority, education, and certifications. Role Description As a Senior Systems Engineer within Zillow Rentals, you’ll help design, build, and operate the core infrastructure that powers the Zillow Rentals experience. Our team owns shared cloud platform infrastructure and cross-cloud networking that supports more than 150 engineers across the Rentals organization. You’ll partner closely with backend, frontend, and data teams to provide secure, reliable, and scalable foundations for customer-facing products. In this role, you’ll be a hands-on contributor to infrastructure and developer platforms. You will use Infrastructure as Code, deep Kubernetes expertise, and strong cloud networking fundamentals to design and operate systems across GCP and AWS. You’ll drive reliability and security, lead incident investigations, and collaborate across engineering teams to deliver resilient, observable, and cost-effective infrastructure that enables rapid product delivery. You Will Get To: - Design, implement, and operate production infrastructure in GCP and/or AWS, supporting high-scale, business-critical services for Zillow Rentals. - Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (primarily with Terraform), including modules, state management, and reusable patterns for platform services. - Own Kubernetes platforms (e.g., GKE/EKS): perform cluster upgrades, tune workloads, manage Terraform, ArgoCD/Helm-based deployments, and debug complex production issues. - Architect and secure cloud networking (VPCs, subnets, routing, load balancers, DNS, TLS, VPN, WAF) and ingress/egress patterns for internal and external traffic. - Improve observability and operations by defining metrics, dashboards, alerts, and runbooks that raise the bar for reliability and incident response. This role has been categorized as a teleworker position. Teleworkers do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and instead work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live anywhere in Mexico, with availability to travel to Mexico City, as we recommend attendance at occasional office events. In addition to a competitive base salary and benefits, this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance, and location. Qualifications - 4+ years of hands-on experience designing, building, and operating production systems in GCP and/or AWS (at least one at depth, both strongly preferred). - Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Experience with Terraform and IaC practices (modules, state management) for managing cloud infrastructure and platform services. - Cloud networking: Proven experience with cloud networking (VPC design, subnets, routing, NAT, security groups/firewalls, load balancers, DNS, TLS, VPN) and securing ingress/egress paths (e.g., ALB/ALB controller, CloudFront, GCP load balancers, WAF/Cloud Armor). - Kubernetes: Deep experience running Kubernetes in production (e.g., GKE, EKS), including cluster upgrades, workload configuration with ArgoCD / Helm, and incident debugging. - Here at Zillow - we value the experience and perspective of candidates with non-traditional backgrounds. We encourage you to apply if you have transferable skills or related experiences. Requirements - Experience in Database management and operations. - Provisioning with tools such as Ansible and Packer. - Programming experience with Java or Python.
