Job Description

Head of Design

Intertek

Role Description The Head of Design is a visionary, execution-oriented leader who owns the entire design function at People Assurance. This is not a maintenance role; it’s a transformation mandate. You will define and drive the design strategy across product, influence brand, and support all external-facing touchpoints, supporting a new standard for how People Assurance looks, feels, and connects with the people who use and encounter our products. The ideal leader is hungry, change-oriented, and energized by building from the ground up. You’ve also done this before. You’ve taken a legacy product or brand and transformed it into something dramatically better, and you’re ready to do it again with the full backing of executive leadership. Key Responsibilities - Design Leadership & Vision - Shape and implement a cohesive design philosophy that elevates workflow efficiency, product functionality, and overall usability across the software portfolio. - Ensure core design principles and usability best practices are applied consistently across all product experiences. - Lead direct research with customers and prospects to understand needs, evaluate industry trends, and translate insights into clear recommendations. - Partner with Product Management to prioritize and drive these improvements into the product. - Serve as a trusted design advisor to executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders across Product, Engineering, and Marketing. - Support visual examples and executive presentations that articulate design transformation and ‘how’ we get there. - Define clear design standards and implement scalable design systems across all PA products and services. - Present design strategy, direction, and progress to leadership and key stakeholders on a regular cadence. - Establish a scalable design system and governance model that enables Product, Marketing, and other functions to leverage shared visual standards while maintaining clear ownership of their respective domains. - Product Design (UI/UX) - Own end-to-end product design experience, from discovery and wireframes to polished, production-ready UI. - Lead the transition from our legacy interface to a modern, intuitive, and scalable design system – elevating quality and accelerating delivery. - Lead direct research with customers and prospects to understand needs, evaluate industry trends, and translate insights into clear recommendations. - Define and maintain the design system and component library in close partnership with Engineering. - Ensure accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design principles are embedded in all product work. - Brand & External Presence - Partner with Marketing to evolve and maintain shared visual standards that create consistency between product experiences and external brand experiences. - Provide design guidance and consultation to ensure consistency across product and external experiences. - Support brand evolution in partnership with Marketing. - Elevate our product brand to a position that signals trust, modernity, and market leadership. - Partner with Marketing to establish and evolve shared visual standards while maintaining clear ownership boundaries between product design and marketing execution. - Change Management & Modernization - Lead the cultural and operational shift to design-led thinking across the organization. - Define and drive the roadmap for evolving our visual and UX standards from legacy to modern, with clear milestones and measurable outcomes. - Champion design as a competitive advantage, building internal advocacy and organizational fluency around design value. Qualifications - 6-8+ years of design experience in a SaaS environment, with a minimum of 2 years in a senior or lead design role. - Must have people management experience – team will flex from 6-10 designers. - Demonstrated track record of modernizing a product UI — you have led a successful transition from legacy to modern design and can speak to the process and outcomes. - Full-spectrum design capability: you move fluidly between product/UX work and brand/visual identity without a drop in quality. - Experience building or scaling a design team, including hiring, mentoring, and developing talent. - Exceptional visual design skills and an uncompromising eye for detail. Your portfolio showcases this skillset. - Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate and sell a design vision to senior leadership. - Comfortable operating in ambiguity; you drive clarity and don’t wait to be directed. Preferred - Experience in HR tech, workforce management, compliance, or adjacent SaaS verticals. - Proficiency in Figma and experience building design systems at scale. - Background in high-growth or scale-up environments where pace and adaptability are essential. - Familiarity with front-end development workflows and collaborating closely with engineering teams. Benefits - Competitive compensation packages. - Medical, dental, and vision insurance. - Life and disability insurance. - 401(k) with company match. - Generous vacation/sick time (PTO). - Tuition reimbursement. - And more.

Role Description We’re hiring for a Product Designer to take full ownership of a core area of our platform—the Agent Marketplace. You’ll lead design from strategy to execution, working closely with Product and Engineering to shape features that help users create better ads with AI by leveraging specialized agents for real client use cases and third-party integrations. This role is ideal for someone who wants real responsibility, values clarity and speed, and thrives in an environment where each Designer drives their own part of the product. You won’t just push pixels; you’ll help define what we build and why, with a primary focus on delivering direct, immediate value to our clients. - Own a core area of the Pencil platform end-to-end, from problem framing and concept exploration to final UI and shipped product. - Partner closely with Product and Engineering to define and rapidly ship agents that solve real problems and maximize time-to-value for clients immediately upon delivery. - Leverage integrations as a multiplier to unlock higher value through external tools and data, positioning the Agent Marketplace at the intersection of Pencil and external ecosystems. - Design high-quality, production-ready interfaces for AI-driven workflows, expertly simplifying complexity to make experiences intuitive and predictable. - Focus on agents that drive high adoption and reuse, prioritizing value over sheer volume. - Ensure design intent is fully translated into development by working closely with engineers during implementation, reviewing builds, and iterating until the quality bar is met. - Conduct user research by staying close to clients and commercial teams to ground decisions in real business problems, and continuously raise usability and clarity across the product. - Use and contribute to our design system, helping to standardize just enough to maintain consistency without slowing down the speed of iteration. Qualifications - 5+ years of experience designing digital products, ideally within SaaS or complex, workflow-driven tools. - A strong portfolio that demonstrates end-to-end product thinking, with a focus on translating messy client needs into clear, actionable agent concepts and shipped outcomes. - Strong problem solver and fast thinker and doer who can move from idea to prototype quickly without over-relying on perfect inputs. - Deep craft sensibility and a high bar for quality, with clear examples of attention to detail in UI, interaction, and system thinking. - Proven ability to work autonomously in ambiguous environments, comfortable with shifting priorities driven by real client demands. - Systems-aware designer who understands integrations and how different tools connect into a seamless experience. - Strong experience working closely with engineers, with a clear understanding of how design translates into real production UI. - Highly proficient in Figma, using it fluently to explore ideas, communicate intent, and evolve design systems. - AI curiosity and comfort designing for AI-powered or data-driven systems, motivated to explore how AI can unlock new workflows and capabilities. Benefits - 25 days PTO plus public holidays, although we operate a Flexible Time Off scheme. - Health insurance / private medical cover. - Monthly stipend towards wellness, fitness, and learning and development. - Remote - work from anywhere in your home country. - Enhanced parental leave policies, whether you become a parent through birth, adoption or surrogacy. - Access to our Pencil office in The Shard, London for UK employees. - Flexible working hours.
