Role Description Workers Compensation Defense Attorney needed for in-house litigation position, working under the direction of the General Counsel. This position will work defending litigated Workers’ Compensation claims before hearing locations, primarily in and surrounding the Virginia area. - Conduct research where necessary. - Examine records and conduct investigations. - Attend depositions and consult with witnesses, insured(s), legal assistants, and/or personnel. - Participate in negotiations on behalf of the Company, including settlements. - Provide leadership and expertise on major company projects as necessary. This position will provide state-specific legal representation before courts, arbitration panels, and/or administrative bodies. - Serve in an advisory capacity to the company and employees. - Prepare legal pleadings, motions, memorandums, trial briefs, etc. - Prepare appeals and perform necessary research. Pay Range Actual compensation decision relies on the consideration of internal equity, candidate’s skills and professional experience, geographic location, market, and other potential factors. It is not standard practice for an offer to be at or near the top of the range, and therefore a reasonable estimate for this role is between $121,500 and $203,400. This attorney will work defending litigated Workers’ Compensation claims before the WCAB primarily in and surrounding Los Angeles, CA, and will handle a full caseload from referral through trial and/or arbitration. • Coordinate and manage client cases throughout the lifecycle of litigation including intake, discovery, trial preparation, and resolution. • Communicate regularly with clients, providing updates on case progress and addressing any questions or concerns. • Work closely with attorneys to prepare legal documents, gather and organize evidence, and develop case strategies. • Monitor and maintain compliance with court deadlines, statutes of limitations, and internal timelines. • Assist with the preparation of discovery responses and various legal pleadings. • Maintain organized case files, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate. • Facilitate communication between clients, experts, and other stakeholders, ensuring that essential information is collected and disseminated promptly. • Research and locate relevant case law, statutes, and regulations to support case strategy. • Assist in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders.
