Job Summary The Senior Project Consultant is a highly skilled consulting professional within the Project Operations Team, responsible for leading complex project scopes, maintaining client relationships, and ensuring the highest quality of project delivery. Senior Project Consultants serve as trusted advisors bridging project execution and strategy by managing multiple workstreams, mentoring junior staff, and advancing client and organizational goals. This role requires exceptional independence, judgment, and the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on project execution. Duties and Responsibilities - Lead multiple or complex project scopes, ensuring delivery excellence, accuracy, and timeliness across all assigned projects. - Serve as a primary client contact, managing expectations, fostering relationships, and ensuring satisfaction and alignment. - Provide direction and oversight for Project Analysts, Associate Project Consultants, and Project Consultants to ensure consistency and quality in project execution. - Develop and deliver sophisticated written deliverables, such as proposals, reports, and strategic recommendations. - Oversee planning and execution of project meetings, workshops, and presentations with internal and external stakeholders. - Anticipate and address client needs proactively, serving as a problem-solver and thought partner. - Support the design and development of scopes, budgets, and proposals for new or expanding engagements. - Collaborate closely with the Project Leadership Team and Business Operations to ensure alignment of project budgets, staffing, and performance metrics. - Identify and implement process improvements to enhance team efficiency and quality standards. - Contribute to internal learning and development initiatives to strengthen Momentum’s delivery capacity. - Perform other related duties as assigned. Billable Expectation This client-facing position has an 80% utilization rate (1,664 billable hours annually for full-time workers). Supervisory Responsibilities None. This role may mentor Project Analysts, Associate Project Consultants, and Project Consultants. Reporting Relationship The Senior Project Consultant reports to Director, Project Operations. Location This position is remote-eligible. However, due to federal contract requirements or the geographic scope of current projects, the employee may be required to be based in California. The role may require occasional travel to Sacramento and various project sites throughout California and the U.S. Training and onboarding are carried out in person at our Sacramento office. Requirements Desired Skills and Abilities - Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and client relationships with minimal supervision. - Strong consulting, analytical, and written communication skills with the ability to produce polished, client-ready materials. - Proven leadership capabilities in coordinating teams, delegating work, and ensuring quality outcomes. - Strategic thinker capable of connecting project-level work to broader organizational or market objectives. - Ability to mentor and develop junior staff, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing. - High degree of initiative, organization, and accountability, with a consistent focus on efficiency and results. - Skilled in managing multiple priorities and adapting to changing project demands. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management systems, and CRM or workflow tools. - Commitment to Momentum’s mission and an understanding of the clean technology and sustainability sectors. Desired Education and Experience - 6–8 years of relevant experience in consulting, project management, or public-sector program execution. - Proven success in writing and translating complex scientific concepts, like emissions data and engineering schematics, into clear, compelling narratives and professional documents. - Demonstrated success leading complex projects and maintaining long-term client relationships. - Experience mentoring or guiding team members preferred.
