Managed Care Financial Analytics Director
Foundation
• Build and lead a managed care analytics function, establishing scalable processes, standards, and operating models • Develop financial models to support payer negotiations, renewals, and pricing strategies • Produce negotiation-ready insights including reimbursement analysis, revenue impact, and margin sensitivity • Translate payer strategy into data-driven decisions impacting contracts, service lines, and network strategy • Analyze value-based care performance, bundled payments, and total cost of care models • Partner cross-functionally to ensure data accuracy, governance, and actionable reporting • Deliver executive-level dashboards and reporting to guide enterprise decision-making • Support live negotiations with real-time modeling and financial scenarios • Identify underperformance, denial trends, and contract compliance risks • Drive improvements in payer strategy, reimbursement structures, and financial outcomes
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, healthcare administration, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in healthcare or financial analytics, with managed care expertise
- 5+ years of leadership experience building and managing analytics functions or teams
- Deep knowledge of healthcare finance, payer/provider reimbursement models, and contract structures
- Experience with managed care contracting, pricing strategy, and value-based care models
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with executive presence
- Expertise in contract interpretation, claims data, and healthcare coding methodologies
- Proficiency with analytics tools and platforms (e.g., SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Epic, or similar)
- Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive strategic initiatives.

Role Description Duke University Health System is seeking a strategic financial leader to serve as the Director of Finance – Strategic Financial Planning and Budget. Reporting directly to the AVP of Budgets, Treasury, and Cash Management, this critical role is responsible for the clinical operational and capital budgeting, as well as the overarching financial planning for DUHS. The Director will establish and oversee budgeting and planning processes that culminate in the publication of the Annual Financial Plan. By actively coordinating with operating unit leadership and DUHS senior executives, this position aims to increase the speed, consistency, and effectiveness of management’s financial decision-making. Key Responsibilities - Strategic Financial Leadership - Provide strategic leadership and assume responsibility for the coordination, development, and delivery of the health system's financial plan and budget. - Manage, plan, and organize a robust financial planning and budgeting process covering both clinical and administrative activities. - Initiate and prepare clear, effective, and informative analyses that accurately describe the financial position, outlook, and strategic direction of the health system. - Provide forward-thinking leadership on future process improvements, including the development of new analytical approaches, practices, and the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) workflows. - Operational & Financial Execution - Execute the functional portion of the annual financial plan process, effectively managing both internal and external teams. - Utilize financial modeling and scenario planning to guide the corporate budget process and monitor the administrative financial burden. - Oversee, utilize, and support the implementation of financial software designed to yield complex analyses of financial results and projected future earnings based on chosen assumptions, targets, and capacity constraints. - Prepare comprehensive compensation plan analyses to support the broader financial planning process. - Coordinate with entity finance teams to support FTE crosswalks and measure year-over-year financial impacts. - Liaise with Duke Connected Care to establish links between the activities of the Population Health Management Office (PHMO) and budget assumptions. - Stakeholder Engagement & Team Management - Lead the development of meaningful financial and budgetary deliverables for senior leadership, coordinating with industry and subject matter experts to produce highly effective presentation materials. - Participate in—and often lead—strategic business opportunities, including multidisciplinary service line and departmental committees requiring clear communication and presentation skills. - Lead, mentor, and supervise a professional staff of two to four (2-4) direct reports, including financial analysts and managers, guiding them through system-wide recurring and non-recurring projects. - Participate in the development of DUHS financial policies, demonstrating a deep understanding of strategic direction, key initiatives, and success factors. - Complete special projects and executive deliverables as assigned.
