• Subject-matter tax responsibility for complex direct mandates, including VAT, annual financial statements and tax returns • Subject-matter contact for clients, operational accounting units and involved specialists • Ensuring deadlines, SLAs and a clear delineation between bookkeeping, financial close and advisory services • Further development and assurance of technical quality in financial accounting • Subject-matter sparring partner for accounting teams in Germany and Bulgaria • Support for additional direct mandates and structural mandate organization

Job Requirements

  • Licensed tax advisor (m/f/d) with at least 2 years' experience advising corporations
  • Excellent knowledge of VAT, including complex issues
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and bookkeeping logic
  • Experience in mandate management, quality assurance and process management
  • Ideally experience with edRewe, DATEV and multi-entity structures
  • Structured, calm and reliable personality with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset

Role Description Duke University Health System is seeking a strategic financial leader to serve as the Director of Finance – Strategic Financial Planning and Budget. Reporting directly to the AVP of Budgets, Treasury, and Cash Management, this critical role is responsible for the clinical operational and capital budgeting, as well as the overarching financial planning for DUHS. The Director will establish and oversee budgeting and planning processes that culminate in the publication of the Annual Financial Plan. By actively coordinating with operating unit leadership and DUHS senior executives, this position aims to increase the speed, consistency, and effectiveness of management’s financial decision-making. Key Responsibilities - Strategic Financial Leadership - Provide strategic leadership and assume responsibility for the coordination, development, and delivery of the health system's financial plan and budget. - Manage, plan, and organize a robust financial planning and budgeting process covering both clinical and administrative activities. - Initiate and prepare clear, effective, and informative analyses that accurately describe the financial position, outlook, and strategic direction of the health system. - Provide forward-thinking leadership on future process improvements, including the development of new analytical approaches, practices, and the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) workflows. - Operational & Financial Execution - Execute the functional portion of the annual financial plan process, effectively managing both internal and external teams. - Utilize financial modeling and scenario planning to guide the corporate budget process and monitor the administrative financial burden. - Oversee, utilize, and support the implementation of financial software designed to yield complex analyses of financial results and projected future earnings based on chosen assumptions, targets, and capacity constraints. - Prepare comprehensive compensation plan analyses to support the broader financial planning process. - Coordinate with entity finance teams to support FTE crosswalks and measure year-over-year financial impacts. - Liaise with Duke Connected Care to establish links between the activities of the Population Health Management Office (PHMO) and budget assumptions. - Stakeholder Engagement & Team Management - Lead the development of meaningful financial and budgetary deliverables for senior leadership, coordinating with industry and subject matter experts to produce highly effective presentation materials. - Participate in—and often lead—strategic business opportunities, including multidisciplinary service line and departmental committees requiring clear communication and presentation skills. - Lead, mentor, and supervise a professional staff of two to four (2-4) direct reports, including financial analysts and managers, guiding them through system-wide recurring and non-recurring projects. - Participate in the development of DUHS financial policies, demonstrating a deep understanding of strategic direction, key initiatives, and success factors. - Complete special projects and executive deliverables as assigned. Qualifications - Required Experience: - A minimum of seven (7) years of related financial planning and budgeting experience. - Demonstrated ability to perform and thrive in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment. - Preferred Qualifications: - Relevant advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, Master of Finance) and/or active CPA licensure. - Extensive experience within healthcare finance. - Strong traditional and modern IT skills, with a demonstrated expertise in creating highly detailed analytical and presentation materials for executive audiences. - Experience or a strong interest in developing and integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills into financial workflows. - Exceptional communication and organizational skills with an uncompromising attention to detail. - Demonstrated ability to perform and thrive in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment, including a strong willingness to work long hours to meet competing deadlines and execute critical projects as needed. Role Description This course is an introduction to the foundations, methods, applications and instructional practices (e.g. WIDA, SIOP) on the teaching of the English language to culturally diverse learners (ELLs). Participants will examine a variety of topics which will include and not be limited to: - Identifying culturally diverse students - Methodology - Formal and informal assessment - Bridging home and school - Technology - Advocacy - Research-based school practices within the complexity of language learning/teaching This course will include an overview of the WIDA English Language Development Standards to learn how to develop language objectives for the ELL student. Qualifications - Hold a current Massachusetts Educator Professional License in one or more of the following fields: English as a Second Language, PreK-6, or English as a Second Language, 5-12, ELL Director. - A minimum of a Master's Degree in ESL or a closely related field. - A minimum of 5 years of K12 ESL education teaching or administration. - Experience teaching online courses at the higher education level is preferred but not required. - Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures. - Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and within FERPA and HIPAA guidelines. - All new employees must complete the FERPA, Anti-Harassment, and any other required online trainings within 15 days of employment. - General knowledge of the University’s mission, purpose, and goals, and the role this position plays in achieving those goals.
