Role Description This course is an introduction to the foundations, methods, applications and instructional practices (e.g. WIDA, SIOP) on the teaching of the English language to culturally diverse learners (ELLs). Participants will examine a variety of topics which will include and not be limited to: - Identifying culturally diverse students - Methodology - Formal and informal assessment - Bridging home and school - Technology - Advocacy - Research-based school practices within the complexity of language learning/teaching This course will include an overview of the WIDA English Language Development Standards to learn how to develop language objectives for the ELL student. Additionally, students will conduct an in-depth examination of how learning is organized in culturally responsive classrooms and schools throughout the United States. 12 Hours of fieldwork experience required. Qualifications - Hold a current Massachusetts Educator Professional License in one or more of the following fields: English as a Second Language, PreK-6, or English as a Second Language, 5-12, ELL Director. - A minimum of a Master's Degree in ESL or a closely related field. - A minimum of 5 years of K12 ESL education teaching or administration. - Experience teaching online courses at the higher education level is preferred but not required. - Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures. - Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and within FERPA and HIPAA guidelines. - All new employees must complete the FERPA, Anti-Harassment, and any other required online trainings within 15 days of employment. - General knowledge of the University’s mission, purpose, and goals, and the role this position plays in achieving those goals. Job DetailsJob Location: East Longmeadow, MA 01028Position Type: Adjunct Faculty (110)Salary Range: $500.00 - $1,200.00 SalaryThis position includes a primary summer responsibility of leading a comprehensive redesign of the course below, including updating content to align with current program goals and best practices in genetic counseling. The individual will subsequently be responsible for delivering the revised course in the fall term. GEN 610: Genomic and Molecular Techniques Lab (3 credits) This course focuses on understanding the genomics and molecular techniques that relate to clinical practice. Chromosome banding techniques, karyotyping, fragile sites, known chromosome syndromes, FISH, chromosome microarray, copy number variants, databases for unbalanced chromosome aberrations and genomic variants, single gene sequencing, multi-gene panels, whole exome and genome sequencing will be included. Students will use varied sources of literature and databases to explore approaches to risk assessment. Genetic testing for diagnostic and screening purposes in adults, newborns and other groups will be discussed. Salary Range: $500-$1,200 per credit.
