We're looking for a talented Senior Software Engineer/Network Automation (Front End Development) to join our growing Network Automation team. In this role, you'll be a key player in building, scaling, and automating the next generation of our network tooling infrastructure. Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain innovative tools and solutions to meet evolving business needs. - Leverage open-source automation tools and scripting languages in commercial tools (e.g., Python, Ansible, ServiceNow, Salesforce) to streamline NOC information gathering, internal communication, and communication with customers. - Contribute to solving complex technical and process problems, such as mass customer communication, automating responses to trouble tickets, and injecting enrichment information into trouble tickets. - Refactor and consolidate existing tools to be a cohesive suite of tools that improve ease of use and reduce swivel-chairing to get the job done. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams (DevOps, Security, SRE) to ensure security and optimal application performance. - Own new features through the project lifecycle, working collaboratively with a team of software developers to ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions. - Stay up to date on emerging network technologies and best practices, becoming the beacon for best practices and efficient processes through the organization. Qualifications - Self-motivated and demonstrates a strong attention to detail. - Experience working with various databases such as Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, and Oracle. - Experience with network automation tools and scripting languages (Python, Ansible, Terraform). - Experience in both building and integrating with RESTful APIs. - Experience with async processing and message bus communications (RabbitMQ, Kafka). - Experience creating and executing automated software testing. - Strong abilities on the Linux command line, working with various flavors of Linux and Docker/Kubernetes. - Strong understanding of applied statistics and the ability to code systems that identify outlier behavior in large systems. - Previous experience delivering, maintaining, and promoting a production software product. - Excellent communication, collaboration skills, and experience using a variety of remote collaboration tools including Jira, Confluence, Google Suite, Zoom, etc. - Experience using Git for code management, review, and deployment. - A passion for tackling complex problems and combining technical and process solutions. Requirements - Network Automation Experience. - Experience working with various network device vendors (via API or Netconf) including Juniper, Nokia, Infinera, Ciena, Fujitsu, and Cisco. - Command-Line experience with networking equipment (Juniper, Nokia, etc.). - Experience with various network orchestration platforms, such as Ciena Blue Planet MDSO, Cisco NSO, or others. - Experience with monitoring platforms such as SevOne, Assure1, and Nagios. - Certifications such as CCNA, JNCIP, or other networking certifications. - Experience with Perl. Education & Experience - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Networking, or a related field (or equivalent experience). - Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in software development with a variety of languages such as Python, Javascript, SQL, HTML, and GraphQL. Role Description Zayo is seeking a Network Engineer II - Optical to be responsible for designing, link engineering and implementing new success based capacity onto the existing DWDM network. The Network Engineer II - Optical is responsible for effectively communicating with internal order management personnel and various internal teams on the progress of the capacity fulfillment. The Network Engineer II - Optical is also responsible for meeting/exceeding daily and weekly performance targets. - Design planning, record creation and capacity fulfillment throughout the U.S and Canadian networks. - Work with Project Managers to effectively deliver service requirements to customers. - Design DWDM network per Network Architectures standards and future growth of our network and customer base. - Implement DWDM wave circuit designs for the core of the network as needed. - Create Engineering Design Packages that are discernible by Operations personnel. - Provide timely updates to project managers and leadership for service deliverables and due dates. - Review capacity request for correctness and clarify any design related items back to the responsible departments. - Maintain specific customer commitments and deadlines in the Zayo (Salesforce or future system used) database. - Provide support to field operations to resolve provisioning problems; review and verify technical data in an effort to project issues. - Open, forecast, and maintain a budget based off of the service commitments. - Secure quotes from our optical vendors, order equipment, move equipment from inventory to the field, write scopes of works for installation of equipment. - Exercise interpersonal skills in working with all internal customers. - Perform other related duties or projects as assigned by management. - Manage workload to identify critical issues and prioritize those items that must be completed daily. - Work around obstacles and roadblocks within the order flow to obtain the priority required by Zayo to meet required due dates. - Show initiative in getting work done. - Participate in operations-related projects, as needed. - Support manager during customer or network escalations as requested. - Perform other miscellaneous duties, including staying abreast of technology and network solutions and cross training when needed.
