• Provide technical leadership and architectural direction for next-generation pluggable optics and adjacent products, driving innovation and differentiation across the product roadmap in collaboration with Product Line Management (PLM). • Serve as a technical authority and customer-facing expert on customer calls and site visits., supporting strategic customer engagements and complex technical escalations. • Own the development and qualification on new and emerging technologies including Digital Coherent Optics (DCO) and next generation technology. • Lead validation, interoperability, and qualification efforts for transceivers across multiple platforms and network environments. • Drive root-cause analysis and resolution of complex transceiver issues, working directly with customers and manufacturers to resolve them. • Provide technical guidance on transceiver coding, configuration, and product data management, ensuring consistency, traceability, and scalability across the portfolio. • Develop a strong relationship with sales team to increase support for key customers. • Advise on laboratory strategy, tooling, and infrastructure, ensuring lab capabilities support current and future optic development and testing needs. • Create and maintain testing and technical requirements documents for customers and vendors. • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends in transceivers, influencing internal strategy and external partnerships.

Role Description At Skylight, software engineers design, implement, and maintain software systems to improve government services for users. This software is built to meet the needs of regular users of government services as well as Skylight’s partners in government. Skylight is partnering with the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) to build Fostering the Future , a platform that helps young adults aging out of foster care find the resources they need, when they need them. Co-designed with former foster youth and launching in fall 2026, the platform turns what someone shares in their own words into a personalized, AI-enabled action plan. You’ll work on both the user experience and the resource set that makes it valuable. You’ll engineer the platform end-to-end: a chat-like experience that pairs LLM features with a curated knowledge base of resources for foster youth. Day to day, that means: - Building the Next.js interface young people will use. - Developing the backend APIs behind it. - Tuning prompts, embeddings, and semantic search for accurate, safe, and genuinely useful answers. Our stack includes Python (LangChain and FastAPI), Postgres with pgvector, Next.js, and embedding and chat models including Amazon Titan and Claude — but we care more about your experience optimizing LLM interactions with knowledge bases than about any specific tool. You’ll join a small cross-functional team of researchers, designers, product managers, and engineers helping the roughly 20,000 young people who age out of foster care each year get the support they’re entitled to. This is a fast-moving, zero-to-one effort — greenfield development on a new public-facing federal platform, at national scale. • You will act as a strategic partner to the Data Architect, ensuring that business systems, APIs and integrations developed by engineering teams deliver reliable, traceable and well-structured data for consumption by the organization’s data and AI platform. • Define and evolve the organization’s reference architecture for systems, ensuring scalability, resilience, maintainability and security; • Lead the Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) process, documenting and communicating key technical decisions and their contexts; • Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks, integration patterns and architectural approaches (microservices, event-driven, API-first, etc.) for different contexts across the organization; • Define API design standards (REST, GraphQL, gRPC, AsyncAPI) to ensure consistent, versionable contracts between systems; • Ensure that system architectures produce well-structured, traceable and consumable data for the data team, working closely with the Data Architect; • Define and implement the organization’s DevOps strategy and engineering platform, covering everything from repositories to production deployments; • Establish code repository organization standards — naming conventions, branch policies and Pull Request practices; • Design and oversee the implementation of robust CI/CD pipelines, ensuring automation of builds, tests, static analysis, security and deployments; • Define the organization’s systems integration strategy, establishing standards for synchronous and asynchronous communication between applications; • Serve as a technical reference for organizational leadership, translating technical complexity into clear, business-facing language;
