Our goal is to assist clients with developing an approach that balances development with cultural resource protection. This is an opportunity to help shape a team and process that reflects your experience, talents, and preferred approach. The candidate will have flexibility to be based in our office in Bismarck, North Dakota, and/or remotely in western North Dakota, and is expected to frequently travel for fieldwork within the region. The Lead Cultural Resource Specialist – PI will support and manage new and existing projects from initiation through the conclusion of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) Section 106 process or related due diligence efforts. Proven experience in inventory, testing, excavation, mitigation, and construction monitoring will be needed to participate in program development and oversight of subordinates in the field and office. Experience working in the Section 106 process with Tribes, stakeholders, and the public will be useful to this position. The applicant should demonstrate previous experience as lead author and reviewer of technical reports. Further, the applicant should understand the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act of 1966 as they relate to cultural resource issues. This team member will have occasional direct contact with regulatory agencies, tribes, and clients. This person will also work with multidisciplinary project teams and assist the Senior Cultural Resource Specialist through the process.
