Why This Role Matters As a Government Audit Resolution Underwriter, you serve as a key safeguard within the post-closing quality control process. Your expertise directly impacts loan quality, investor compliance, and overall operational risk mitigation. In this role, you will analyze complex mortgage documentation, identify and resolve audit findings, and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure files meet agency, investor, and internal quality standards. Your ability to balance analytical review, regulatory compliance, and timely resolution will help protect the organization while supporting operational excellence. Key Responsibilities - Conduct detailed post-closing reviews of mortgage loan files to ensure compliance with investor and internal quality control standards. - Analyze loan-to-value ratios, debt-to-income ratios, credit reports, income documentation, asset documentation, appraisals, and supporting loan documentation. - Ensure loans meet investor, agency, and regulatory guidelines, including FHA, VA, USDA, and Conventional requirements. - Support risk evaluation efforts through recalculation of borrower income, review of appraisals, and validation of supporting documentation. - Request and review additional documentation when necessary to support value, compliance, or audit findings. - Maintain data integrity and ensure loan file accuracy throughout the audit resolution process. - Partner with borrowers, Loan Originators, title companies, and other external parties to resolve outstanding audit findings and documentation issues. - Review, analyze, and mitigate quality control findings and post-closing defects. - Collaborate with setup, processing, closing, sales, and operational teams to resolve internal and external audit exceptions. - Manage an active pipeline while meeting required audit deadlines and service-level expectations. - Maintain current knowledge of investor overlays, agency requirements, and industry regulatory updates. - Deliver exceptional service and communication to both internal and external business partners. - Support additional audit resolution and operational initiatives based on business needs and individual competencies. What You Bring - 5+ years of experience in Quality Control Underwriting, Government Underwriting, or a related mortgage audit resolution role. - Strong understanding of mortgage lending principles, investor guidelines, and quality control procedures. - Demonstrated experience reviewing Government loan products including FHA, VA, and USDA loans. - Advanced analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex financial and mortgage documentation. - Experience reviewing and validating LTV, DTI, credit reports, appraisals, income calculations, and asset documentation. - Strong problem-solving capabilities with the ability to identify discrepancies, mitigate risk, and resolve audit exceptions efficiently. - Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage a high-volume pipeline and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and external partners. - Adaptability and willingness to quickly learn and apply evolving investor and regulatory guidelines. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. - Strong commitment to quality, compliance, and operational accuracy. - Ability to demonstrate AFR core values through daily actions and decision-making.
