Manager, Labor Strategy & Engagement

Role Description Iron Mountain is seeking a Manager, Labor Strategy & Engagement to work remote. The Manager, Labor Strategy & Engagement will provide proactive Labor Relations Leadership to North America field locations for all business lines in assigned territories. This role will maintain effective relationships with business partners in order to drive business results through dynamic and positive workforce experience strategies; as well as, proactively identify, develop, and implement tools, resources, and solutions that help shape a positive employee experience. This role will also ensure consistent practices and decision making in labor relations within North America in order to mitigate risk and promote a strong, ethical and motivating environment. Responsibilities - Identifies and recommends strategies to address current and future Labor Relations and retention needs. - Participates in projects to develop workforce experience best practices and propose new/modified programs and policies to better organizational needs. - Manages and reports on identified metrics that support company proactive labor relations strategies. (Time Spent 10%) - Provide Labor Relations leadership by ensuring compliance to company policies and practices and federal, state and local laws; respond to field inquiries and direct resources that can assist or accelerate issue resolution. - Provide direct reactive ER support through case managers when appropriate. - Assure appropriate departments are involved and apprised as necessary, such as Global Investigations, Global Risk & Safety and senior leadership. - Stay current on strike actions, labor/culture issues, and potential outreach to sympathizers. - Maintain visibility with petition filings, labor organizing activities and political movement that has the potential to impact Iron Mountain’s labor strategy and landscape. (Time Spent 35%) - Conduct complex investigations and mitigate risk by ensuring compliance with EEOC, DOL and NLRB policies. (Time Spent 5%) - Conduct formal (ERL Class Series, Performance Management) and informal (Change Management, Conducting Difficult Conversations) training for front line leaders. - Serve as advocate and advisor for front line supervisors and managers. (Time Spent 10%) - Serve as LR hourly employee “advocate” through proactive (Roundtable Facilitation, Transportation Ride Alongs, etc.) and reactive (Dispute Resolution, Open Door, Ethics Hotline) behaviors. - Drive resolution of all open issues in a timely and professional manner. (Time Spent 10%) - Champions Company, Area and Territory initiatives by business line. - Function as a liaison between the business and Employee/Labor Relations team to foster partnership in support of the business. - Work with HR leadership to develop communications and deliver compelling, honest talk tracks that inspire and motivate employees. (Time Spent 10%) - Functions as a liaison with HRBP’s and COE’s to assist in driving company programs and policies, including culture initiatives, annual talent calibrations, etc., that advance organizational and employee growth. (Time Spent 10%) - Work in partnership with the Labor Relations team on both proactive and reactive Labor Relations strategies as needed including Business Continuity Planning strategy and partnering with Global Safety & Risk. (Time Spent 10%) Qualifications - Demonstrates a minimum of 5-8 years of HR and/or Labor Relations experience. - Possesses broad knowledge of all internal HR programs and services. - Ability to understand and interpret state and federal laws associated with employee and labor relations, including, but not limited to, FMLA, ADA and NLRB and EEOC case ruling. - Ability to communicate and present effectively to all levels of the organization, in particular front line leadership and non-exempt employee groups. - Has a strong sense of urgency in both solving problems and defining problem solutions to mitigate future risk and issue recurrence. - Proven skills in Google Suite products to include, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. - Possesses basic understanding of the business units and financials; candidates must be able to read a P & L and understand the key measures of success for assigned business units. - Trusted advisor and advocate; provides strong direction when resolving issues and delivering positive and proactive ER strategies. - Delivers consistent programs and responses to improve upon the effectiveness of the North American business. - Thinks at all levels (exempt and non-exempt) when resolving issues; provides consistent, realistic and empathetic communication that is understood and acknowledged by business leaders and hourly staff. - Partners in a consistent and positive manner with HR Shared Services, HRBP peers (within assigned business lines) and Centers of Excellence to ensure issue resolution and proper role clarity in delivering programs to territory employees. - Impacts overall organizational effectiveness via leadership actions and decisions. - Impacts both business unit and HR function through influence and program management; must be seen as an SME in workforce experience and culture, employee and labor relations. - Ability to be seen as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert by hourly and exempt territory leadership by building relationships with leaders and instilling confidence through exceptional performance. Role Description As a Tax Senior Manager on Avalara's Global Tax team, you will report to the Indirect Tax Director and focus on Avalara's indirect tax compliance function. Your work spans US state and local indirect taxes, Canadian and UK indirect taxes, property taxes, and other non-income tax matters. You will have hands-on responsibility for compliance, tax accounting, audit defense, and collaboration. The Tax Senior Manager can be remote within the United States. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. #LI-Remote Responsibilities - Lead the global indirect tax accounting and compliance lifecycle, including maintaining indirect tax general ledger accounts, ensuring accurate indirect tax filings, and making tax payments. - Be the primary reviewer of calculations, forms, and other information related to indirect taxes, including property, sales, gross receipts, use, franchise, and digital service taxes. - Manage global external tax service providers and supply them with complete and accurate information. - Lead indirect tax audits, including coordinating responses, communicating directly with auditors, gathering and reviewing supporting documentation, and maintaining audit files and correspondence records. - Work across time zones with global stakeholders, including other teams, service providers, and tax authorities. - Evaluate existing indirect tax processes with a focus toward improvement; identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability through better workflows, automation, or technology. - Research indirect tax technical issues, documenting facts, issues, and conclusions completely. - Oversee the impact of evolving indirect tax laws and regulations, keeping stakeholders informed and processes aligned. - Implement tax-related internal controls and maintain internal control documentation. - Support payroll tax technical matters and create or review state income tax apportionment computations, where needed. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or advanced degree (MST/JD/LLM). - 7+ years of relevant experience in public accounting and/or in industry, with meaningful exposure to US indirect tax compliance. - Hands-on experience with US state and local indirect tax, including sales and use tax compliance, tax accounting, audit defense, and taxability analysis; familiarity with GST and VAT. - Experience identifying opportunities to improve existing processes to produce a more efficient and accurate indirect tax compliance function. - General familiarity with US GAAP financial reporting concepts, including the ability to prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules following standard accounting principles. - Research, analytical, and documentation skills. - Proficiency in Excel and comfort working with large volumes of structured data; familiarity with general ledger systems and tax compliance technology, including Avalara products and NetSuite. - Experience explaining indirect tax requirements and positions to non-tax stakeholders. Pay Range Details - Colorado: $136,400-$225,000 (annually) - Washington: $136,400-$248,600 (annually) - California: $136,400-$272,500 (annually) - NYC: $165,100-$272,500 (annually) The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed.
