The Commercial Underwriter II position is built for a credit professional who has developed strong technical fundamentals and is ready to take on greater ownership and impact. In this role, you will independently evaluate commercial loan applications, apply sound underwriting judgment, and contribute meaningfully to portfolio performance. You will collaborate closely with Sales, Operations, and senior credit leaders while refining your ability to assess risk, structure deals, and communicate clear, well supported credit decisions. You will apply disciplined credit analysis, strengthen your decision making authority, and continue developing advanced underwriting judgment in a fast paced lending environment that values accountability and collaboration. What You'll Do - Perform routine analysis of financial documents and bank statements to evaluate the creditworthiness of commercial loan applicants. - Assess the financial health of businesses by analyzing key financial metrics, such as cash flows, liquidity, profitability, and leverage. - Analyze personal and business credit and background reports to identify credit risks associated with commercial loan applicants. - Assess the impact of the guarantor on the company's ability to service debt. - Prepare a brief statement based on established criteria and policies summarizing underwriting recommendations for commercial loan decisions. - Make multiple credit decisions per day while building toward individual approval authority. - Possess a well-rounded knowledge of pricing, structuring, and stipulations based on risk profile. - Collaborate with colleagues to communicate underwriting decisions to internal stakeholders and provide information. - Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of market dynamics. What You'll Bring - A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Accounting, or a related field. - Four to six years of experience in finance, banking, accounting, underwriting, or a similar analytical environment. - Experience working within small business and/or commercial lending is highly desirable. - Strong working knowledge of financial statement analysis and the ability to interpret complex financial data with confidence. - Understanding of small business lending dynamics and common industry risk considerations. - Strong analytical thinking and quantitative skills with attention to detail. - Ability to make complex credit decisions in a deadline driven environment. - Clear written and verbal communication skills and confidence presenting underwriting rationale. - A cover letter is highly encouraged, as it gives us greater insight into your experience and career aspirations. Required Qualifications - Knowledge of medical coding and revenue cycle processes (CPT/ICD codes, chargemaster, payer billing workflows). - Minimum of three years' experience in finance and or an accounting related field. - Advanced Excel skills including Pivot tables, VLookup, Sumifs. - Demonstrated experience with database queries or computer programing. - Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
