Role Description Kinetic by Quotewell is Quotewell’s programs division, focused on building technology-enabled insurance solutions for complex risks. We are hiring a Construction Underwriter, with deep experience in project excess liability and contractors-related construction risks, to help support and scale our growing programs business. This person will be a senior, hands-on underwriter who understands the industry’s challenges and is motivated to build smarter, more innovative solutions. The ideal candidate has a strong E&S underwriting background (carrier or MGU) and is able to own the process from day one, evaluate complex construction submissions, and make strong underwriting decisions with speed, accuracy, and sound market judgment. They should combine deep technical coverage expertise with an entrepreneurial mindset and excitement for helping shape a high-growth program platform supported by technology and AI-enabled underwriting workflows. What you’ll do - Drive growth. - Build, manage, and grow strong relationships with wholesale brokers and agent partners to drive profitable business flow. - Own outcomes. - Navigate the full underwriting lifecycle from start to finish, ensuring fast, accurate turnaround on every deal while using technology-enabled workflows and underwriting tools to improve efficiency, reduce noise, and accelerate decision-making. - Operate like an owner. - Help scale Kinetic’s construction program from the ground up by establishing strong underwriting practices early and driving efficiency as the business line grows. - Shape the platform. - Partner with Engineering, Product, and Operations to design and implement tools that make program underwriting in surplus lines smoother and smarter. Qualifications - 7+ years of underwriting experience in a carrier, MGA, or MGU and a strong record of success in E&S underwriting. - Ample experience underwriting construction risks, including project excess liability, wrap-ups, and contractor business. - Strong existing relationships across the wholesale distribution marketplace and a track record of building trusted agent and broker partnerships. - Deep technical coverage expertise and the ability to evaluate exclusions, limitations, endorsements, and pricing with confidence. - Active home state general and surplus lines licenses, preferred. - Excel in high pressure and high-volume environments, generating quotes and servicing policies at speed without sacrificing quality. - Write crisply, speak clearly, and can adapt tone between agents, carriers, and teammates. - Ability to multitask and remain attentive to detail while balancing multiple priorities.
