Role Description As a Senior Data Scientist, you will join a team of data scientists, AI researchers, software developers, and psychometricians who provide technical and scientific leadership for some of our most important strategic efforts companywide. You will be actively and cross-functionally involved in the entire AI/ML model development lifecycle from design to deployment. You will help design, develop, validate, operationalize, and monitor AI/ML models for our Higher Education business unit, and you will collaborate closely with colleagues across functions like Product, Engineering, Learning Design, and User Experience to help McGraw Hill create and deliver world-class educational experiences. This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States. What You'll Do: - Plan, execute, and report on projects of diverse scope independently with weekly manager check-ins. - Support/guide junior colleagues, including acting as team lead on shared projects. - Propose solutions to business problems based on limited information and precedent. - Solve problems by adopting, adapting, and/or extending existing DS/AI approaches. - Collaborate with colleagues in other functions to support the creation of compelling learning experiences. - Learn how to balance multiple projects and revise project plans as circumstances change. Qualifications - Master’s degree (or equivalent) in AI, Data Science, or related field - 3+ years of applicable work experience - Ability to apply DS/AI knowledge to independently define and resolve problems, even with limited information or precedent - Recent hands-on experience with generative AI, including LLM orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex) - Deep understanding of large language model (LLM) principles - Proficiency in Python and SQL (5+ years) - Creativity in addressing diverse issues aligned with business goals, including suggesting variations in approach - Ability to adapt communication style to different audiences and advise others on complex matters - Proven track record of independently planning, executing, and reporting on AI projects to deliver business value Requirements - Passion for technology and commitment to staying current on generative AI advancements - Affinity for education and knowledge sharing - Experience with LangSmith - Strong technical communication and collaboration skills - Ability to create scalable and efficient production-level code Benefits The pay range for this position is between $140,000 - $170,000 annually. However, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. • Collaborate in the development and maintenance of documentation of data definitions and abstraction procedures • Efficiently identify and abstract pathology, treatment and other clinical data from medical records that is thorough and accurate • Maintain REDCap database for disease area(s) • Think critically to identify potential problems affecting the abstraction process for improvement and quality control • Perform quality review on work completed by other data abstractors • Review data quality dashboards and make corrections • Address data quality questions from a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, bioinformaticians, and clinical scientists • Manage process documentation • Translation of healthcare and clinical concepts for data engineering work • Coordination with clinicians for clarification on abstraction procedures and clinical concepts • Support the multidisciplinary team in automated abstraction activities
