Job Description

Forward Deployed Engineer – SaaS, AI

foodforecast

• As a Forward Deployed Engineer you will work at the intersection of engineering, product, and customer. • You understand our customers' operational challenges, translate them into technical solutions, and support implementation through to go-live. • You develop custom solutions, integrations, and workflows in Ruby on Rails – from requirements gathering and prototyping to production deployment. • You use AI coding tools strategically to deliver implementations quickly and with high quality. • You translate customer needs into clear technical and product decisions – in close coordination with the CTO, CEO and COO. • You work closely with our engineering team (backend, data science, AI) to ensure customer insights drive improvements to the core product.

Job Requirements

  • Experience in a technical role such as Software Engineer, Solutions Engineer, Implementation Engineer, or Technical Consultant – ideally in a SaaS or AI/Data environment.
  • Solid software engineering skills (ideally Ruby on Rails) and a good understanding of data and machine learning concepts.
  • Practical experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI development tools such as Claude Code – both for developing LLM-based features and for AI-assisted software development.
  • Experience working directly with customers, strong product sense, and the ability to translate business requirements into technical implementations.
  • Pragmatic, solution-oriented work style with high personal responsibility and an ownership mentality – you prefer building a working prototype over spending weeks debating the perfect architecture.
  • Willingness to attend regular on-site meetings with our customers, primarily in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland).
  • Very good German language skills (at least C1 level) and good English language skills (at least B2 level), both written and spoken.

Benefits

  • Exciting and responsible tasks in a fast-growing company.
  • The opportunity to work in a meaningful and future-oriented field.
  • Significant development opportunities and a true start-up feeling in a dynamic team.
  • Flexible working hours and the option to work from home.
  • A team of motivated colleagues who want to achieve a lot together.
  • Responsibility for your own projects and the opportunity to actively contribute to shaping the company.
  • Employee benefits such as an Urban Sports membership, bike leasing, and a contribution to the company pension plan.
