Role Description As a Senior AWS Database Administrator, you'll ensure the databases that support our technology systems are designed and performing as needed while providing the necessary data to the appropriate team members. You'll be a strategic technical partner who bridges our Technology and Data teams, driving database excellence across both environments. - Create and modify database structures, ensuring optimal design for both transactional integrity and analytical reporting. - Perform advanced database maintenance tasks, including backups/restores, statistics updates, index optimization, and performance tuning. - Proactively monitor and optimize database performance across AWS MySQL, Azure TSQL, and Databricks AnsiSQL environments. - Design, implement, and manage Master Data Management (MDM) solutions that ensure data consistency across systems. - Collaborate with data engineers to map production data to data warehouse solutions with MDM standards. - Develop and maintain comprehensive Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs), system flow documents, and technical specifications for leadership and cross-functional teams. - Maintain system security and data integrity across all data environments. - Partner with systems engineers to optimize hardware and storage subsystems for AWS. - Develop, manage, and maintain robust disaster recovery and high availability plans. - Collaborate with Infosec and Security teams on data compliance, security, and retention. - Participate in data architectural design reviews with both Technology and Data teams. - Mentor and coach team members on database best practices. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field (or equivalent professional experience). - 6+ years of hands-on SQL coding experience across multiple platforms (AWS MySQL, Azure TSQL, Databricks AnsiSQL). - 6+ years of experience in data modeling, ERD design, and database tuning for both production write performance and reporting/auditing integrity. - Proven experience supporting data systems in both Technology and Data team environments. - Strong AWS cloud platform knowledge. Requirements - Very strong AWS experience with demonstrated ability to architect and optimize database solutions. - Proficiency across multiple SQL dialects and database platforms. - Advanced expertise in data modeling, ERD creation, and performance optimization for competing priorities (write speed vs. relational integrity). - Hands-on experience with Databricks platforms. - Exceptional ability to create and manage ERDs, system flow documents, process flow documents, and technical specifications. - Skilled at translating complex data models into clear, compelling presentations for leadership and stakeholders. - Fluent in both data and technology languages, comfortable communicating with individual contributors, managers, and senior leaders. - Highly approachable with the ability to build strong relationships across all business areas, particularly within Technology and Data teams. - Skilled at navigating complex, politically sensitive conversations and influencing positive change without escalation. - Collaborative mindset with a commitment to mentoring and developing team members. In this role, this individual will provide technical leadership and strategic oversight for enterprise database environments, ensuring high availability, performance, integrity, and security of mission data. They will guide database architecture decisions, oversee operational stability, and serve as a trusted advisor to government stakeholders on database strategy and risk management.
