Job Description

Operations Technology & Systems Engineer

Lola Blankets

Role Description We are seeking an Operations Technology & Systems Engineer to own and improve the reliability, integrity, and performance of the systems that run our business operations from customer checkout through warehouse fulfillment. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role responsible for building Lola’s order flow monitoring infrastructure from scratch, delivering new technical capabilities such as pre-sales, and serving as Lola’s internal technical expert. This role sits at the intersection of operations and technology, so the ideal candidate has both experience in early-stage execution and best practice engineering. It will eventually sit within a centralized Tech & Systems function; but until that happens, you must be comfortable being the primary technical resource in support of Lola’s operations. This role will report directly to the Head of Operations. Core Responsibilities - Customer Order Visibility & Management - Build and maintain visibility of Lola’s order flow to proactively identify individual anomalies from Shopify (or other sales channels) through fulfillment. - Own daily monitoring of customer order flow; investigate exceptions and escalate findings with proposed operational impact and solutions. - Own the technical investigation and resolution of anomalies, partnering effectively with internal and external counterparts to understand, resolve, and prevent recurrence. - Work with the Operations team, vendors, and others to develop SOPs for how Lola can respond to technical risks that cannot be eliminated. - ERP & WMS Vendor Partnership - Serve as Lola’s primary technical counterpart for ERP and WMS providers, while maintaining strong working relationships with all other vendors, including the Shopify webdev agency. - Partner with 3PLs to roll out and test warehouse automation software and hardware, ensuring no disruptions to customer service or changes to existing system configurations. - Partner with the eCommerce team, Shopify webdev agency, ERP team, and others to test and release new capabilities, including an improved presales capability. - Collaborate with vendors to co-create feature requests, change roadmaps, and issue resolutions; hold them accountable to following best practices and upholding SLAs. - Peak Readiness & Capacity Testing - Own technical preparation and readiness for every major sale event, including end-to-end volume stress testing, risk identification, and proactive mitigation. - Build the institutional knowledge that turns peak readiness from an afterthought into a core, repeatable process. - Systems Architecture & Documentation - Build and maintain an accurate map of Lola’s systems and order flow. - Document system behavior in a way that is accessible to non-technical stakeholders. - Continuous Improvement - Build and maintain a prioritized backlog of systems improvements – identifying structural gaps, fragile integration points, and vendor dependencies – sourced from stakeholders across the business. - Anticipate systematic risks and improvements before they cause operational problems. Evolve the technical infrastructure as Lola adds channels, products, and complexity. Qualifications - 4-7 years of experience in a systems integration, technical operations, or platform engineering role - ideally in a DTC, retail, or consumer environment. - Operator-first mindset: you understand how business value is created - by working quickly and making current systems progressively better. - Able to operate without a technical direct manager. - Shopify Plus experience – admin API, webhooks, Flows, the app ecosystem, stress testing, best practices. - Strong technical fluency – SQL, data queries, API fluency, root cause diagnosis, scripts. - AI-native: demonstrated curiosity and ability to reach better answers faster using availability AI tools (e.g., for root cause analysis, query generation, or documentation), while recognizing their limitations. - You own outcomes, not tasks. Benefits - Competitive salary (commensurate with experience) - Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, PTO) - 401K with company match - 21 days paid vacation + most federal holidays - 16 weeks paid birth parent leave; 8 weeks for non-birth parents - 55% off Lola Blankets for friends and family - Flexible remote work environment - Opportunities for career growth and leadership as the company scales
