Role Description The Manager, Electrical Engineering will focus on the development and management of an internal team within the Engineering group. This role will create an inspiring and collaborative team environment with an open communication culture, set clear team goals, delegate tasks, and coach/mentor Associates to successfully deliver engineering projects. This position will provide leadership and development to Fortna Associates of varying levels of experience and will focus on the management of the group’s resource planning and project execution across all delivery projects. This role will support promoting and developing the approach and methodologies for the delivery of projects from the initial lead up to the implementation. As a management position, the technical function of this position is to be responsible for directing the design and documentation of electrical controls deliverables of Fortna’s Material Handling Systems. Primary Responsibilities Include - Leadership - Create a vision of your team in alignment with Fortna’s vision and goals. - Organize and conduct training of Associates to maximize potential. - Ensure development of Associates using regular feedback, quarterly performance reviews, and by maintaining a skill matrix. - Create a pleasant working environment that inspires the team and takes care of the health, safety, and welfare of Associates. - Motivate Associates to commit to and achieve organizational goals. - Ensure a strong and robust communication process and resolve conflicts. - Organize team initiatives by leading team meetings, leading 1:1 meetings, and continuously work on team canvas. - Contribute to the growth of the company through a successful team. - Management - Oversee multiple projects in electrical engineering. - Assess and review current processes and tools within the team and adapt to industry standards. - Provide input for improvement of Drawing Quality Control (DQC) process. - Lead generation and enhancement of department standard documentation and procedures to improve the quality and efficiency of the engineering group. - Constantly work to expand knowledge of industry best practices and the latest technology for the whole team. - Set department standards in electrical engineering. - Define and follow KPIs representing the success of the team. - Resource planning of the team. - Projects - Lead, direct, and support multiple projects through the detail design and implementation phase. - Provide input and influence the Description of Operation (DOO) & Functional Specification Documentation (FSD) to ensure documents align with electrical engineering implementation plans. - Develop electrical engineering work plan and resource requirements to ensure successful project milestone achievements. - Ensure deliverables meet Drawing Quality Control (DQC) requirements. - Direct project teams and support resources during the development of RFP/Supplier Selection, detailed electrical design packages, equipment procurement activities, installation drawing packages, and support of installation contractor, Project Manager, and Site Manager with installation efforts. - Lead controls layout review meetings with internal teams and clients resulting in design acceptance. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field from an accredited college with seven to 10 years of relevant experience, or a two-year degree from an accredited college with 10+ years of relevant experience. - Conveyor control process experience (photoeyes, solenoids, variable frequency drive, line scanner, print and apply application). - Knowledge of and ability to work with and manage multiple suppliers. - Ability to work effectively on a team and support high levels of performance. - Strong management and advanced collaboration and communication skills (written and verbal communication). - Extensive experience working with MS Project and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). - Experience in standard design of relevant material handling equipment for position. - Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Promis-e, or E-Plan for electrical design. - Flexible and approachable. - Ability to self-motivate. - Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management and problem-solving skills. - Ability to travel frequently both nationally and internationally in support of projects. - Ability to perform essential functions of the job. Desired Qualifications - Experience managing engineering projects requiring collaboration between multiple engineering work streams. - Experience managing and directing engineering support resources to achieve project milestones. - Control panel design experience. - Strong comprehension of Ethernet IP, Ethercat network design and requirements. - Strong leadership skills. Working Conditions When duties are performed in a typical office environment, extended periods of sitting at a desk and viewing a computer screen will be required. Also required is the ability to talk and hear, in person and by telephone; use of hands to handle, feel, or operate standard office equipment; and ability to reach with hands and arms. Associates are frequently required to walk and stand. The noise level in this work environment is usually quiet.
