Application Systems Analyst - Policy Administration

Role Description Pan-American Life Insurance (PALIG) is seeking an Application Systems Analyst - Policy Administration who will perform work with a high degree of latitude and provide technical support to the business area. The ideal candidate will: - Be highly analytical and detail-oriented with a strong foundation in mathematics. - Have deep experience in life insurance and systems, including configuring Life Administration Systems. - Perform technical system design, manage and perform testing, and facilitate prioritization of development efforts. - Drive identification of tasks and estimation. - Communicate concepts and details at both technical and business levels. - Identify and communicate risk in business terms and provide conceptual modeling. - Have a good understanding of the SDLC and basic knowledge of software development. - Assist with troubleshooting and resolving application issues. - Provide mentorship and training to peers and colleagues. - Provide after-hours support as needed. - Proactively learn and utilize new technology, concepts, and procedures as appropriate for project requirements. - Maintain current knowledge of industry technology trends. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, and 1 year of experience in mathematics, actuarial science, business analytics, computer science, or related field; 4 years of additional experience may be substituted in lieu of degree. - 1-2 years of relevant experience in life insurance or financial services industry with industry knowledge specific to concepts and terminology is strongly preferred. - Willingness to learn and comply with life insurance regulations and compliance standards. - Progress toward or an interest in obtaining Associate Life Management Institute (ALMI) or Fellow Life Management Institute (FLMI) designation is preferred. - SQL language and querying data. - Reporting Tools (Crystal, COGNOS, CINCOM Eloquence, SQL Server Reporting Services). - Understanding of programming (.Net). - Experience with SDLC, project management, and agile methodologies. - Experience with automated testing. - Work Management tools (Jira, Confluence, Service Now). - Effectively communicate with technical and non-technical individuals, including translation between the two. - Takes initiative / proactive mindset. - Travel (limited). - Perform under stressful conditions and competing deadlines. - Provide after-hours support (limited). Requirements - Perform systems analysis to provide solutions and identify potential improvements. - Interpret data regarding the current environment and document workflows and system access. - Assist business in identification of business requirements and design of processes to support business needs. - Proactively learn and utilize new technology, concepts, and procedures as appropriate to project requirements. - Apply analytical skills to define information requirements necessary to design, build, and install upgrades and/or new implementations. - Consider and adhere to security protocols established by InfoSec. - Identify and document recommendations for optimal workflow based on system capabilities. - Work with business area to support the creation of business cases, including clarification of scope, identification of possible solutions, recommendation, project feasibility, cost estimations, and schedule. - Assist in the definition of user acceptance testing. - Contribute to the development of training and support plans for end-user application systems. - Support current project methodology (traditional waterfall or agile) while adhering to the System Development Lifecycle (SDLC). - Develop or help in the development of work plans and task sequencing. - Create test plans in collaboration with the business area to support application and integration test scenarios. - Work with business analysts and stakeholders to resolve scope issues and other conflicts. - Evaluate and recommend appropriate/optimal project approach according to project need. - Utilize change management process. - Represent Information Technology in a respectful and professional manner. - Complete assigned tasks per defined project scope, timelines, and budgets. - Proactively work with internal IT teams on technical troubleshooting, integration, reporting, and training. - Demonstrate creativity and passion to continuously learn. - Follow department standards and procedures. - Communicate effectively with technical teams at all levels and with users at both non-technical and technical levels. - Improve productivity by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in tools, training, or processes. - Alert senior management of any outages, problems, or delays. - Maintain knowledge of life insurance, technology, and industry trends. - Research and recommend innovative and automated approaches that leverage resources and provide economies of scale for solutions.
