Role Description We are defining the future of the Rentals Industry. ApartmentIQ is a profitable, growing company building the industry's most advanced operating system for multifamily real estate. Last year alone, we shipped three new products — and we're just getting started. You will report directly to the CTO and lead a newly formed team tasked with a massive strategic initiative: uniting the deep data insights of ApartmentIQ with the generative workflow of Maven. You will build and grow a cross-functional team that includes up to four engineers, a product manager, and a designer. The Product Goal: - Building a system where market data drives immediate action. - Triggering Maven to automatically generate and post engaging social media content and instantly update listing availability across the web when ApartmentIQ detects a vacancy or a pricing shift. - Ensuring prospective renters have the most accurate, real-time information while property managers save hours of manual work. - Being the technical architect behind this integration. The Role: - Hands-on architecture and coding across Rails backends, data pipelines, and React frontends. - Designing end-to-end flows where real-time market data triggers concrete actions. - Owning the full stack: the unified interface (React + Tailwind), the API layer (Rails), and the data integrations. - Using product analytics, usage data, and direct customer feedback to decide what to build next. - Championing AI-assisted development as force multipliers for the team. Qualifications - 7+ years of experience shipping data-intensive B2B SaaS, with 2+ years in a Lead or Manager role. - A track record of owning product outcomes, making tradeoff decisions about what to build. - Deep experience with Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq, and modern React/Tailwind frontends. - Experience or genuine enthusiasm for AI-assisted development workflows. - Proficiency with data storage patterns and an understanding of data ingestion workflows. - Comfortable writing specs in Linear and debugging background jobs. - A collaborative leader who can bridge the gap between technical engineering and product vision. • Lead and scale the Infrastructure / Core Platform domain, managing multiple teams responsible for cloud infrastructure, internal platforms, reliability, and core services. • Enable AI-first product delivery at scale by providing robust foundations for LLM workloads, agentic systems, data pipelines, model evaluation, and secure model serving. • Set a clear technical and operational vision for infrastructure that balances reliability, velocity, security, and cost. • Partner closely with Product, Security, and Engineering Leadership to align platform investments with business and product strategy. • Drive operational excellence: availability, incident management, capacity planning, disaster recovery, and clear SLOs. • Establish and evolve platform standards for CI/CD, observability, infrastructure-as-code, service ownership, and developer experience. • Lead teams responsible for cloud cost management, performance optimization, and scalability, especially as AI workloads grow. • Coach and develop senior+ Infrastructure engineers, setting clear expectations and growth paths, while raising the overall talent bar through strong hiring, onboarding, and succession planning. • Guide teams through change and ambiguity, including fast-evolving AI infrastructure needs and shifting organizational priorities. • Contribute to org-wide engineering strategy, planning, and execution as a senior member of the engineering leadership team. • Own strategic relationships with key Infrastructure and SaaS vendors, including contract negotiations and amendments, usage and spend oversight, roadmap alignment, and evaluation of new capabilities as platform needs evolve. • Partner closely with Finance and Procurement to lead cloud cost management and optimization, including cost allocation, forecasting, budgeting, and governance models that scale sustainably with growing AI workloads.
