Role Description The Director, Business Development – PriorityPet is the tip of the spear for PPUC’s growth pipeline. This role is responsible for sourcing, qualifying, recruiting, and converting Primary Partner DVM / Medical Director candidates who will own and lead PriorityPet Urgent Care clinics in partnership with AAH. Reporting directly to the SVP of Strategy, this is a high-ownership, travel-heavy business development and recruitment role for a self-starter with a strong veterinary-industry rolodex and the drive to continually fill the top of the funnel and close at the bottom. In addition to strategic business development responsibilities, this role owns the full-cycle recruitment process for de novo PriorityPet leadership hires — from sourcing and outreach through offer execution, Employment Agreements, background checks, and onboarding coordination. Success in this role looks like a healthy, multi-state pipeline of qualified DVM leads, a steady cadence of signed Primary Partners, and PPUC clinics that open on time with the right clinical leader at the helm. The Director is measured on both pipeline generation and successful placement outcomes and can earn additional compensation from high-performing practices. Key Responsibilities - Lead Sourcing & Pipeline Development - Build and continuously refresh a national, multi-state pipeline of potential DVM Partner / Medical Director candidates for PPUC. - Leverage existing personal rolodex to generate warm introductions and referrals. - Represent PriorityPet at veterinary industry conferences, Continuing Education events, state VMA events, school visits, and other in-person settings to identify and engage prospective partners. - Run targeted outreach campaigns (calls, email, LinkedIn, networking, and in-person meetings) into priority markets identified by the Strategy team. - Maintain a clean, accurate CRM and ATS pipeline with full visibility into candidate stage, next steps, activity, and probability. - Partner closely with Talent Acquisition, Operations, and Strategy teams to align recruiting priorities with clinic growth plans. - Full-Cycle Recruitment & Hiring Management - Own the candidate journey end-to-end — from first conversation through signed Letter of Intent/Employment Agreement and onboarding completion to open the new practice. - Manage traditional recruitment activities including: - job postings and advertisement management - candidate sourcing and screening - interview coordination - Offer presentation and negotiation - LOI/Employment Agreement execution - background check initiation and monitoring - onboarding coordination with HR and Operations to get new hire to opening - Ensure a high-touch, relationship-driven candidate experience throughout the hiring process. - Maintain recruiting workflow compliance, documentation accuracy, and timely movement through hiring stages. - Lead Conversion & Deal Closing - Deliver a compelling, consistent pitch of the PPUC model, AAH value proposition, partnership economics, and clinical autonomy story. - Assist other members of the Strategy team in walking candidates through pro formas, partnership structures, and equity / compensation mechanics. - Negotiate deal terms within parameters approved by the SVP of Strategy; coordinate with team on LOIs and other legal documents as needed. - Drive deal velocity — keep candidates engaged, surface objections early, and remove friction across the funnel. - Relationship Management & Industry Presence - Serve as a trusted, credible representative of AAH and PPUC inside the veterinary community. - Build and nurture long-term relationships with DVMs, industry contacts, and other referral sources. - Activate AAH’s existing partner doctors as a referral channel into new Primary Partner introductions. - Identify speaking, panel, and podcast opportunities to elevate the PPUC brand within the industry. - Reporting, Forecasting & Accountability - Maintain weekly pipeline reviews with the SVP and Sr. Director of Strategy regarding leads sourced, recruiting activity, candidate progression, signed agreements, and clinic readiness. - Own transparent KPI reporting across both business development and recruitment metrics, including: pipeline generation, outreach activity, interviews, offers extended, signed agreements, time-to-fill & sourcing KPIs. Qualifications - 5+ years of experience in the veterinary industry (sales, business development, recruitment or talent acquisition, hospital operations, DVM relations, or related). - Strong existing rolodex of Associate DVMs, DVM Owners, Medical Directors, and/or industry contacts across multiple U.S. markets. - Demonstrated track record of sourcing leads and closing deals, partnerships, or hard-to-fill veterinary hires. - Experience managing full-cycle recruitment processes, including offer negotiation and onboarding coordination. - Highly effective written and verbal communicator; able to credibly engage DVMs, executives, and internal cross-functional partners. - Self-starter with a “grinder” mentality — comfortable building pipeline from scratch, taking rejection, and grinding through long sales cycles to close. - After PPUC training/onboarding, comfortable discussing partnership economics and key PPUC value propositions. - Disciplined CRM, ATS and pipeline-management habits; reliable forecaster. - Willingness and ability to travel domestically up to 60% of the time, including evenings and weekends around industry events. Preferred Qualifications - Prior business development, talent acquisition, or M&A-sourcing experience in veterinary space. - Working knowledge of veterinary hospital P&Ls, DVM compensation structures, and partnership/equity economics. - Experience supporting de novo or startup healthcare/veterinary growth initiatives. - Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, marketing, or a related field. Benefits - Alliance Animal Health offers a competitive, performance-driven compensation package designed to attract a top business development operator with a strong veterinary rolodex. - The structure is intentionally weighted toward variable, performance-based comp tied to signed Primary Partners and the ongoing performance of clinics this role brings to the platform. - Upside is uncapped — top performers are expected to materially exceed the Year 1 target. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements - Fully remote/home-office based role with travel up to approximately 60% of the time for industry events, prospect meetings, partner hospital visits, and meetings at company headquarters. - Position may require evening and weekend participation related to conferences, networking events, candidate meetings, and business development activities. - Must be able to travel domestically, including occasional short-notice travel, consistent with business needs. - Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required for certain travel obligations, unless otherwise accommodated in accordance with applicable law.
