Job Description

Engineering Program Manager

Ford Motor Company

Role Description Success as an Engineering Program Manager (EPM) requires someone who brings structure to ambiguity and drives delivery clarity across teams. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, build strong partnerships with engineering and program leaders, and ensure work is prioritized and executed with discipline. You are comfortable operating at both the strategic and tactical levels: shaping what should be worked on, aligning cross-functional stakeholders, and ensuring delivery plans, risks, and dependencies are visible and actively managed. You communicate crisply—writing clear leadership updates and facilitating alignment when tradeoffs are required. What you’ll do - Own the domain “system of delivery” and ensure the domain’s work is focused on the most important outcomes, aligned to VC&M strategy, and planned/governed consistently. - Establish the structures and mechanisms that enable predictable delivery (backlog structure, planning artifacts, governance cadence, reporting hygiene). - Challenge and de-prioritize work that does not support the strategy or agreed priorities (in partnership with Technical Program Manager (TPM), Product, and VC&M leadership). - Own the domain backlog structure, PI planning, and the domain delivery plan (scope, milestones, dependencies), within the strategic frame set by TPMs and leadership. - Prioritize within the domain, with Engineering Manager input, to ensure capacity is focused on the highest-value work. - Drive clarity for cross-team sequencing and integration planning so commitments are realistic and well-understood. - Maintain accurate internal risk and dependency registers; actively drive resolution, mitigation plans, and escalation paths. - Keep Atlassian artifacts and dashboards up to date so domain and program status is trustworthy and comparable across VC&M. - Provide clear, timely communications to stakeholders on progress, risks, and changes. - Ensure work has a clear acceptance criteria and a defined value/outcome. - At completion, validate with Engineering and TPMs whether acceptance criteria were met and whether the intended value was delivered. - Participate and provide key inputs to the cross-functional work intake discovery process; cascade with context to all impacted functions within your domain. - Apply and help evolve common VC&M standards for discovery, planning, and delivery. - Ensure the domain “plugs into” the broader VC&M operating model using shared templates and cadences. How you’ll do it - Build strong partnerships across engineering, program, product, design, systems, testing, operations, safety/regulatory, release, and quality. - Drive alignment through clear tradeoffs, documented decisions, and transparent plans. - Use data and delivery signals (risks, dependencies, throughput/health indicators) to inform priorities and leadership actions. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. - 5+ years of experience in software/services delivery environments (product/platform/feature delivery). - 3+ years of experience coordinating cross-functional work across multiple disciplines (engineering, program, product, design, QA/test, systems, operations, etc.). - 3+ years of experience with delivery tooling (e.g., Atlassian Suite, Miro) and disciplined delivery hygiene (plans, dashboards, dependency tracking). - 3+ years of experience operating in scaled delivery models (PI planning, multi-team roadmapping, portfolio governance). - 3+ years of experience defining and implementing standards/templates that improve consistency across teams. - Ability to synthesize complex information for diverse audiences, ranging from high-level executive briefings that drive decision-making to granular technical documentation for engineering execution. Benefits - Immediate medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage. - Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more. - Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments, and more. - Vehicle discount program for employees and family members and management leases. - Tuition assistance. - Established and active employee resource groups. - Paid time off for individual and team community service. - A generous schedule of paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. - Paid time off and the option to purchase additional vacation time.

Role Description As a Principal Services Program Manager in FDE, you operate across multiple concurrent engagements, own the executive customer relationship on the most complex accounts, and shape the way the PM practice works as the team scales. You are not executing a playbook — you are writing it. You partner with the FDE Practice Lead on deal structure and pipeline qualification. You are in the room when SOWs are being shaped, not just when they are being delivered. You mentor and develop Lead PMs, maintain outcome discipline across the portfolio, and serve as the escalation owner when something in the customer relationship needs a senior hand. Duties and Responsibilities - Own the Portfolio - Oversee the PM function across multiple concurrent FDE engagements simultaneously - Maintain situational awareness across all active programs: outcome status, scope health, open risks, and customer relationship signals - Intervene directly in engagements where scope, delivery, or the customer relationship is at risk - Ensure consistency of outcome framing, change control standards, and customer communication across all engagements - Manage capacity and assignment decisions for Lead PMs across the portfolio - Lead Executive Customer Relationships - Own the customer relationship at CXO and Senior VP level for the most strategic FDE accounts - Lead executive business reviews: translate program-level outcomes and ROI into a narrative that resonates at the executive layer - Navigate organizational complexity within customer accounts: competing stakeholders, shifting priorities, political dynamics - Position UKG FDE as a strategic partner through sustained executive presence and outcome discipline — not just a vendor delivering a project - Serve as the escalation point for any customer relationship issue the Lead PM cannot resolve - Shape Deals and Engagements - Partner with the FDE Practice Lead and Enterprise Sales on opportunity qualification and SOW structure - Pressure-test proposed engagements for outcome clarity, scope risk, and customer readiness before commitments are made - Shape SOW language so that outcome definitions are precise, measurable, and defensible at closeout - Identify expansion and follow-on opportunities during active engagements and bring them into the pipeline with the right framing - Advise on pricing structure and scope design for complex or multi-phase deals - Build the PM Practice - Define and maintain the FDE PM playbook: outcome definition frameworks, change control standards, customer communication templates, phase gate criteria, and closeout protocols - Mentor and develop Lead PMs; provide direct coaching on scope judgment, executive communication, and escalation handling - Extract patterns from completed engagements and translate them into reusable practices that make future programs faster and more consistent - Contribute to the FDE accelerator through engagement model assets: how we structure, run, and close programs more efficiently over time Qualifications - 8+ years experience with customer-facing program management in forward deployed or embedded services model - Demonstrated experience managing CXO-level customer relationships in high-stakes, complex enterprise environments - Track record of running multiple simultaneous complex programs without loss of quality or customer confidence Preferred Qualifications - Strong commercial instincts: ability to read deal health, scope risk, and expansion opportunity in real time - Experience shaping engagement structures and SOW language, not just executing against them - Ability to operate in high-ambiguity environments with limited oversight; your judgment does not require escalation for routine complexity - Experience building or significantly improving a PM operating model, delivery framework, or practice playbook Benefits - The pay range for this position is $129,500 to $186,100. - The actual base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and work location. - In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible to participate in a performance-based bonus plan and to receive restricted stock unit awards as part of total compensation. - Learn more about UKG’s benefits and rewards at UKG Benefits .
