We are defining the future of the Rentals Industry ApartmentIQ is a profitable, growing company building the industry's most advanced operating system for multifamily real estate. Last year alone, we shipped three new products — and we're just getting started. We have two category-leading engines: ApartmentIQ, which provides deep market intelligence and data, and Maven, an AI-driven marketing automation platform. Now, we are combining them. We are forming a brand new team to build the connective tissue between Intelligence and Action. We are a fully remote group of 100+ spread from coast to coast. We operate on a strict "no a**holes" policy and have built a community of high-performers who take our work seriously, but never ourselves. While we are backed by $30MM+ from world-class investors, we are profitable, cash-rich, and control our own destiny. We don't incinerate capital; we build products that customers love and rely on. The Mission: The New Team You will report directly to the CTO and lead a newly formed "Greenfield" team tasked with a massive strategic initiative: uniting the deep data insights of ApartmentIQ with the generative workflow of Maven. You will build and grow a cross-functional team that includes up to four engineers, a product manager, and a designer. The Product Goal We are building a system where market data drives immediate action. Instead of static reports, we want our data to do the work. When ApartmentIQ detects a vacancy or a pricing shift, it should trigger Maven to automatically generate and post engaging social media content and instantly update listing availability across the web. This ensures that prospective renters always have the most accurate, real-time information they need to make quick decisions, while property managers save hours of manual work. You will be the technical architect behind this integration. The Role We are seeking a visionary Software Engineering Lead to architect and execute this unification. You will collaborate tightly with Product and Data Science to ship high-quality work at a pace that matches our ambition. We don't just build AI features; we build with AI. We are early adopters of tools like Claude Code and AI-assisted testing and code review. We see these as force multipliers that free engineers to focus on what matters most: high-level architecture, creative problem-solving, and building things that genuinely work. We're looking for engineers who are curious about these tools and eager to push on what's possible — not people who need to be convinced. Expect a balance of: Architecture & Coding (~40%): You'll be in the trenches, stitching together Rails backends, data pipelines, and React frontends. Leadership & Mentorship (~30%): Unblocking your team, conducting code reviews, and growing their careers. Strategy & Product (~30%): Defining the "how" of this new unified platform alongside product management. Responsibilities Lead the Product Build: Build and manage a cross-functional engineering team responsible for connecting ApartmentIQ's rich market intelligence directly into Maven's generative content workflows. Modern Development Practices: Champion the use of AI-assisted tooling — from Claude Code to automated testing agents — to maintain high standards of quality and velocity. Automated Quality: Implement and refine automated code review pipelines that handle style nits, security checks, and pattern matching, ensuring human review time is spent on architecture and logic. Architect the Solution: Design end-to-end flows where real-time market data (Postgres/PostGIS) triggers specific actions (Social Posting/Availability Updates) via our AI models. Coach & Cultivate: Conduct regular 1:1s, fostering a culture of psychological safety, technical rigor, and "don't repeat yourself" automation. Full Stack Ownership: Guide the evolution of our unified interface (React + Tailwind) and the API layer (Rails 7) that powers it. Operational Excellence: Partner with Data Science to ensure data freshness and accuracy — renters rely on this data being correct, so our pipelines must be robust. Manage the Process: Collaborate with Product on roadmap planning in Linear, ensuring we are breaking down complex integration problems into shippable wins. Qualifications Competitive Compensation: We believe in hiring the best and paying accordingly. You’ll receive a competitive salary that reflects your impact and expertise. Paid Time Off: Take the time you need with our flexible vacation policy and dedicated paid parental leave to support you and your family’s biggest milestones. Your Health Matters : Stay healthy with high-quality Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance plans for you and your family. Peace of Mind (On Us): We fully invest in your security with 100% company-paid Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, and Basic Life Insurance. Protection for Your Whole Crew: Access supplemental insurance for the unexpected, plus specialized coverage to keep your pets happy and healthy, too. Invest in Your Future: Secure your financial goals with our 401k Program, helping you build for the long term while you help us build the company. If you are ready to lead a team that builds real, high-value products using the best tools and practices available, we want to talk to you. If you need assistance and/or a reasonable accommodation in the application or recruiting process, please contact your recruiter. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time. We want to alert you to potential recruiting scams targeting job seekers. Please note that our company will never request payment, personal information, or any confidential details during the interview process.
