Role Description Ensures a profitable book of business by appropriately evaluating the acceptability of risks within established authority levels. Demonstrates decision making authority with moderate supervision, making subjective quality exceptions to retain profitable business. Communicates with assigned agents on any rejected risks to educate on market appetite and explain underwriting guidelines. Markets Company products and services to agents and actively participates in the agency management process. Responsible for working with and protecting confidential and proprietary customer and Company information. This is a remote position. - Accepts, rejects or modifies new and renewal business for all Personal Lines with moderate guidance to ensure a profitable personal book of business. - Reviews risk acceptability to make subjective decisions based on underwriting guidelines ensuring standards for state compliance regulations are met. - Ability to use creativity and underwriting knowledge to engineer risks and retain business. - Responsible for managing a field of agents to achieve Company growth and profitability targets. - Develops on-going relationships with agents, conducts proactive outreach with agents to discuss market appetite, quality of submissions and encourage profitable growth. - Keeps agents up-to-date on underwriting and/or product changes. - Manages a complex book of business to maximize profitability and growth. - Reviews loss ratios and growth for agents when evaluating and making agency exceptions. - Mentors newer underwriters and is a resource within underwriting department. - Partners with Territory Managers to identify trends and patterns that might create problems and works with agents to correct. - Trains and educates agency staff on Company products, services, underwriting philosophy, etc. - May promote the Company's product and services by speaking to insurance-related groups, CPCU meetings, etc., and by networking within the insurance community to stay abreast of changes within the industry. - Performs other support functions as needed.
