Billing Specialist

Hanger, Inc.

• Responsible for the timely review and submission of medical claims to insurance companies from a wide variety of providers and clinics. • Knowledgeable of all aspects of the financial process from scheduling, billing, and collections. • Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness in a timely manner • Take the initiative to obtain missing information to ensure claims are submitted accurately and timely • Knowledge of insurance rules and guidelines; such as, Medicare and Medicaid • Adhere to billing guidelines, policies, and procedures • Identify the proper party to be billed; such as, insurance company or patient • Complete the entire required billing checklists prior to submission • Perform follow up activities to ensure documentation is gathered in a timely manner • Communicate with clinic personnel and insurance companies • Ensure necessary documentation is included or coordinate with appropriate clinic to update records

Job Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Minimum good fit for the job, as determined by the Talent Bullseye assessment. Hanger will administer the Talent Bullseye as part of the selection process.
  • Good customer service and communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including the ability to follow written and verbal directions
  • Resourceful and flexible team player who excels at building trusting relationships
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA and other medical insurance regulations and terminology for private payer, state and federal plans including coding, billing and reimbursement protocols
  • Working knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, HCPC/CPT and other coding
  • Proficient computer skills including Windows based office technologies (ex. Word, Excel) and automated billing systems
  • Ability to use all necessary office equipment; such as, facsimile machines, calculator, postage machine, copiers, etc.
  • Knowledge of state, federal and regional collection and reimbursement laws where applicable
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Detailed orientation while working in a fast paced environment
  • Exhibit enthusiasm and positive attitude
  • Ability to work independently and exercise creativity
  • Familiar with medical terminology
  • Proficiency with basic math and accounting skills

Role Description The Billing Denial Specialist is responsible for proactively reviewing, researching, and resolving insurance claim denials to ensure timely reimbursement and minimize revenue loss for the Practice. This role plays a critical part in the revenue cycle by identifying denial trends, filing appeals, correcting claim issues, and working denials through to resolution.
