Professional Billing Analyst – Associate

Margie and Bill Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design at UTSA

• Under direct supervision, this position is responsible for ambulatory application(s)/module(s) of Epic. • Collaborate with and provide tier-one support to their team and/or counterparts from other applications to successfully meet the development and implementation objectives for assigned Epic applications. • Effectively manage competing and changing priorities. • Serves as project lead for key initiatives, including performing project management duties, as assigned. • Develops, documents, and adheres to the internal procedures that will be used in conjunction with related applications and systems. • Interacts professionally with leadership, faculty, staff, and vendors.

  • Retirement - Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.
  • Time Off - A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
  • Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
  • Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
  • Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
  • Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each year.

Role Description The Billing Denial Specialist is responsible for proactively reviewing, researching, and resolving insurance claim denials to ensure timely reimbursement and minimize revenue loss for the Practice. This role plays a critical part in the revenue cycle by identifying denial trends, filing appeals, correcting claim issues, and working denials through to resolution. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. This individual must be a self-starter who takes initiative, remains proactive, and does not require constant direction to manage responsibilities effectively. This is a fully remote position. Only qualified applicants currently residing in Florida will be considered for employment. Key Responsibilities - Review denial reports daily and actively work all assigned insurance claim denials to resolution. - Research denied, underpaid, and rejected claims to determine root cause and appropriate corrective action. - Submit corrected claims, reconsiderations, and appeals in a timely manner. - Communicate with insurance carriers regarding claim status, appeals, and reimbursement issues. - Identify denial trends and escalate recurring payer or workflow issues to leadership. - Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all follow-up activities within the practice management system. - Work collaboratively with billing, coding, authorizations, scheduling, and clinical teams to resolve claim issues. - Ensure compliance with payer guidelines, billing regulations, and practice policies. - Prioritize workload effectively to meet productivity and aging goals. - Follow through on unresolved claims until final determination or payment is received. - Assist with special revenue cycle projects and additional duties as assigned. - Other duties as assigned.
