Forensic Electrical Engineer

• Conduct field inspections to determine the origin, cause, and extent of electrical failures, including fires, explosions, and system malfunctions • Develop clear, well-supported conclusions and produce comprehensive technical reports and documentation • Provide timely, professional updates to clients, attorneys, insurers, and internal stakeholders; manage expectations and maintain strong relationships • Work independently from a home office while leveraging internal experts and resources; build long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and partners • Drive investigations through completion, ensuring high-quality deliverables that meet client expectations and industry standards • Contribute ideas that strengthen processes, tools, and customer outcomes; help others navigate change and adopt improvements
Job Requirements
- 5–10 years of experience working with or designing electrical systems
- Forensic engineering experience strongly preferred
- Experience investigating electrical failures, fires, or explosions
- Expert witness experience, including depositions and trial testimony, preferred
- Strong technical writing skills; ability to produce clear, defensible reports is critical
- Strong verbal communication and client service skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional environment
- Proficiency with technical tools (computers, cameras, and engineering software)
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Florida is required, or eligible by reciprocity
- Additional state licenses or ability to obtain via reciprocity preferred
- CFEI (NAFI), CFI, or related certifications preferred
- NCEES Record preferred.

Role Description Miller-Remick is looking for an Electrical Engineer to support multiple concurrent capital projects ranging from $5M - $100M across a variety of markets, with a strong focus on healthcare. This person should have a proven history of performing complex work with efficiency and some oversight. - Assist in the design and development of electrical systems for commercial, healthcare, and industrial projects. - Prepare electrical construction drawings and specifications for medium- and low-voltage power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, grounding, and low-voltage systems. - Perform electrical load calculations, voltage drop calculations, panel schedules, and equipment sizing. - Design branch power, lighting, emergency power, and lighting control systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards. - Support the development of single-line diagrams, riser diagrams, and electrical room layouts. - Coordinate electrical systems with mechanical, plumbing, structural, architectural, and civil disciplines for coordinated project delivery. - Conduct site surveys and field investigations to document existing electrical conditions. - Participate in project meetings and coordination discussions with clients, contractors, and internal teams. - Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs for conformance with project requirements. - Support construction administration activities including field observations and punch list reviews. - Utilize Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP, AGi32, and other engineering software for design and analysis. - Perform photometric calculations and assist with lighting layout development. - Prepare engineering reports, studies, and basis of design narratives. - Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget objectives. - Collaborate with multi-discipline project team of internal and external architects and engineers to ensure successful project execution and client satisfaction. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. - 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering design for MEP/building systems projects. - Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred or ability to obtain. - Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IBC, IECC, and related electrical design standards. - Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite. - Familiarity with electrical analysis and lighting software such as SKM and Visual Lighting preferred. - Understanding of construction documents and engineering design processes. - Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. - Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. - Experience in hospitals and healthcare, military bases, government buildings and courthouses, research laboratories, central steam and chilled water plants, corrections facilities, and/or site utility infrastructure highly valued. - Travel to client sites as required.
