POSITION OVERVIEW The Senior Manager, Development - California is a fully remote position based in the San Francisco Bay Area. This person will join a growing team of experienced Washington, D.C.-based development professionals to secure resources to advance and sustain the organization's work in California and beyond. They will deploy fundraising and relationship management skills to raise the organization's profile and grow support primarily from foundations and high-net-worth individuals based in California and support corporate relationships in the region. The Senior Manager will be capable of effectively managing a diverse portfolio of prospects and funders, and skilled at closing $100,000+ commitments. They will work in close coordination with other Partnership staff and effectively engage, support and deploy the organization's CEO, senior executives and board members in pursuit of funding opportunities. The Senior Manager will be passionate about applying their skills to the Partnership's mission and will be completely comfortable working independently, proactively and energetically while collaborating with others to advance the organization's mission. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES - Provide input into revenue targets and strategies to support the Partnership, primarily for programs and initiatives in California. - Use various donor research and relationship building methods to Identify and cultivate a portfolio of prospects for the Partnership's CA-based and national programming. - Work with other Development team members to steward CA-based donors and design and execute cultivation events to raise the Partnership's profile in the region. - Draft concept papers, grant proposals and grant reports, as required. - Maintain contact and prospect information in Salesforce and ensure meeting notes and other information are appropriately captured in the system. As a member of the Development team, the Senior Manager, Development - California will: - Work directly with other members of the Development team and adhere to standard procedures to ensure strong communication, collaboration and recordkeeping. - Seek out training opportunities that support professional growth and align with an annual performance management plan. KEY COMPETENCIES - Ability to think strategically and synthesize complex information into concise messages and communications. - Team player with a demonstrated commitment to collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and a propensity for seeking and engaging a diversity of perspectives and viewpoints. - Experience managing up to a CEO or other senior executives to ensure their productive engagement in fundraising and decision-making. - Detail-oriented with strong project management skills, who can work under pressure, manage priorities and meet tight deadlines. - Consistent, sound judgment and decision-making skills. - Excellent relationship management and communication skills. - Ability to convey the Partnership's mission and priorities in a compelling manner while remaining scrupulously nonpartisan. - Creative, resourceful, proactive and agile. - Ability to handle challenges and obstacles with tact, diplomacy and flexibility. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Minimum seven years of fundraising or relevant work experience, with progressive responsibility, including donor or sponsor cultivation, proposal development and relationship management. - Demonstrated track record of successfully securing major gifts from high-net-worth individuals and significant foundation grants, including prospect identification, relationship cultivation, proposal development, and grant stewardship and reporting. - Experience working in complex organization and across functions to yield best fundraising results. - Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent professional work or military experience. - Familiarity with and commitment to using donor relationship management systems; knowledge of Salesforce is preferred. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY/REPORTING STRUCTURE This position will not directly supervise others. They will report to the Director, Institutional Giving and will work in close coordination with other members of the Development team. WORK ENVIRONMENT This job operates in a remote setting in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, with the requirement to travel to other parts of CA and occasional travel to Washington, D.C. This position requires consistent use of office equipment such as computer, telephone, printer and scanner. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This position is full-time and classified as exempt from overtime pay. Official business hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT, though the Partnership allows flexibility in work schedules. Occasional evening or weekend activities may be required. TRAVEL If travel occurs, it is usually during the business day. Some out of the area and/or overnight travel may occasionally be required. For all full-time staff working outside the Washington, D.C./Maryland/Virginia (DMV) area, the Partnership will cover the cost of travel (air/train/bus) to and from the Partnership office in Washington, D.C., meals, and two-nights lodging for each of two trips in any calendar year. SALARY AND BENEFITS The starting salary range for this position is $115,500 - $130,000. The Partnership offers a compensation package that includes a competitive salary; medical, dental and vision coverage; life insurance; long- and short-term disability insurance; a 401(k) program with a 4 percent employer match; opportunities for training and development; 15 days of annual leave per year, 10 days of sick leave per year, plus all federal holidays and the day after Thanksgiving off.
