Job Description

Engineering Manager – Building Generation

Higharc

• Lead planning and delivery across the generative model, geometry pipeline, and BDG APIs • Partner with PMs early to scope PRDs, surface constraints, and assess feasibility before engineer owners take over delivery • Evaluate technical proposals from your team and route them forward — to the Director of Engineering when scoped to your team, or to the ARC when they cut across squads • Coordinate with the other BDG EM to keep technical direction, interfaces, and the platform coherent across both teams • Shape a clean contract between the building model and Higharc Studio's interaction and rendering systems as its API surface matures • Develop and mentor engineers, and attract strong computational geometry and CAD talent across North America • Run an async-first, minimal-meeting team with clear ownership and high accountability

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years in software engineering with significant time in CAD/CAM or computational geometry, and 2+ years managing technically deep engineering teams
  • Deep background in computational geometry (boolean operations, mesh processing, BReps, constraint solving, or related areas)
  • Strong expertise in parametric and generative modeling of 2D and 3D geometries — feature-based modeling, history graphs, dependency propagation, and keeping parametric systems robust at scale
  • Experience with platform development and API design for multiple internal (and ideally external) consumers, with attention to versioning, performance, and developer experience
  • Familiarity with geometry kernels — commercial, open-source, or custom-built — and comfort with the trade-offs
  • Fluency in AI-supported software development practices and active use of them in your engineering workflow
  • A delivery track record in a fast-paced, distributed environment
  • Based in the US or Canada

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Meaningful maternity/paternity leave to all U.S based employees that are full-time
  • Stipend to create the ideal home office

Your responsibility is to define direction, improve technical standards, and ensure the team consistently transforms promising methods from academia, industry, and NVIDIA research into useful OpenShell capabilities. You will guide the team on what to examine, how to confirm its value, and when to integrate the top concepts into the product. What You’ll Be Doing: - Lead and grow a team that is passionate about agentic systems and OpenShell runtime capabilities. - Define the team's technical strategy, research agenda, and product-facing priorities in partnership with engineering, product, development, research, solutions, and developer-facing teams. - Track major developments in agent research, internal NVIDIA work, publicly available projects, and industry systems, then help the team identify which ideas matter for OpenShell. - Guide the team in reproducing, adapting, benchmarking, and productizing promising research methods. - Ensure the team develops high-quality POCs, evaluation harnesses, red-team workflows, reference implementations, and product-ready solutions. - Build operating rhythms for research review, prioritization, technical decision-making, experimentation, and roadmap influence. - Partner with product and engineering leaders to move validated ideas into shipped OpenShell capabilities. - Contribute to outlining what secure, scalable, production-quality agent runtime infrastructure entails for enterprise builders. - Mentor team members on independent technical investigation, communication, engineering rigor, product sense, and cross-functional collaboration. - Hire, mentor, and develop a team with strong research engineering instincts and a bias toward shipping. • Own the weekly cadence for Channels and Analytics. • Work with PMs and engineering leadership to surface and sequence priorities - including the ones nobody has written down yet. • Help organise backlogs and bring structure to teams operating in a fast-moving, low-process environment. • Unblock engineers proactively. Identify the constraint before it becomes an escalation. • Write and maintain technical debt plans with engineers, not for them. • Act as a second thinker on integration strategy and capacity planning. • Improve the things that slow good engineers down. • Run 1:1s that leave engineers with clearer thinking, not just status logged. Deliver hard feedback directly. Have it land, not bruise. Help develop senior engineers who want to grow - including coaching engineers who have ambitions toward management. • Act as a backup hiring partner: help run loops, hold the bar, partner with recruiting.
