JOB DESCRIPTION As a member of UL Solutions' Energy Storage Advisory team within the North American Renewables business, the Senior Project Engineer provides technical and commercial due-diligence support for Independent Engineering (IE) and Technical Advisory (TA) projects across energy storage, solar + storage, and hybrid renewable portfolios. This position supports project financing, tax equity, sales, and acquisition transactions by evaluating project contracts, financial models, technical designs, and documentation to assess risk, performance, and bankability. The Senior Project Engineer integrates input from multidisciplinary teams to deliver consistent, high-quality advisory reports for clients that include lenders, developers, and investors. The ideal candidate combines strong engineering fundamentals with commercial awareness and communication skills. They are capable of engaging directly with clients, guiding internal contributors, and helping shape UL's technical advisory practice through mentorship, thought leadership, and business development participation. This role can be hybrid from Latham, NY, Houston, TX, Northbrook, IL, Oakland, CA, or remote in the United States. RESPONSIBILITIES - Perform and lead technical due-diligence reviews for energy storage and solar + storage hybrid projects supporting financing, acquisition, and development activities. - Review and interpret project contracts-including EPC, interconnection, PPA, O&M, and major supply agreements-to identify technical and commercial risks. - Analyze and validate financial models, assessing CAPEX, OPEX, warranties, degradation, performance assumptions, and other key financial drivers. - Evaluate project energy use cases, operating profiles, and dispatch strategies to ensure alignment with technical capabilities and market conditions. - Compile and complete IE and TA reports, summarizing findings, conclusions, and recommendations to ensure clarity, quality, and consistency. - Integrate multidisciplinary input (engineering, financial, and environmental) to ensure a coherent and technically sound final deliverable. - Collaborate with Project Managers to align technical work with project scope, schedule, and budget, supporting on-time and on-budget delivery. - Engage directly with clients, lenders, and developers, presenting technical results, responding to comments, and maintaining professional client relationships. - Identify and communicate project risks and mitigation strategies, applying lessons learned and best practices. - Support business development, including supporting proposal preparation and strategic client outreach. - Represent UL Solutions externally at conferences and industry events, contributing to thought leadership within the renewables sector. - Mentor junior staff and provide guidance to peers across disciplines to strengthen technical and commercial capabilities within the organization. - Contribute to continuous improvement of internal tools, templates, and methodologies for due-diligence and advisory services. - Occasionally travel ( QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred. - Minimum of 4 years of experience in renewable energy, energy storage, or related industries, preferably within a technical advisory, developer, or lender environment. - Proven experience performing contract and financial-model reviews for energy infrastructure projects. - Strong understanding of project finance concepts, risk assessment, and bankability considerations. - Demonstrated ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple concurrent projects. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences. - Strong commercial acumen and understanding of how technical and contractual factors influence project economics. - Proven client-facing delivery experience and comfort interacting with senior stakeholders. - Ability and willingness to mentor junior staff and share expertise across the organization. - Familiarity with market, policy, and regulatory trends influencing the North American energy storage sector. Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career . The estimated salary range for this position is $120,000 - $140,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours). Role Description We’re looking for a Senior QA Engineer who enjoys working in a dynamic and supportive team. You’ll be a key player in making sure our web and mobile applications work smoothly and meet high quality standards. You’ll work closely with developers and product managers to test features both manually and through automation, mostly in JavaScript-based environments. Your goal will be to help the team release faster while keeping our code stable and reliable. You’ll test everything from backend APIs to mobile apps, and help us improve how we build and deliver software. This role is perfect for someone who wants to make a real impact, work across different systems, and help shape our QA processes. Responsibilities - Test web and mobile apps manually and with automated scripts to make sure everything works as expected. - Work closely with developers and product managers to understand new features and help plan testing early in the process. - Write and maintain test cases to cover new features and existing functionality, making sure we have strong test coverage. - Find and report bugs clearly, helping developers understand what went wrong and how to fix it. - Keep track of bugs from the moment they are found to when they are fixed and confirmed. - Provide test support for the development team throughout all stages of development. - Improve our test automation by writing new tests and improving the testing framework (mostly in JavaScript). - Participate in code and test reviews, offering suggestions and learning from teammates. - Help define and improve QA processes, making sure our testing is efficient and reliable. - Take part in release testing, ensuring each new version is high-quality and ready for users. - Take full responsibility for the quality of part of the product. - Work on backend (API) and frontend testing, mobile apps. - Make suggestions for improvements based on your test results and user feedback. - Make status and quality reporting in daily meetings. Qualifications - 3+ years of experience in software testing, including at least 1 year in test automation. - Strong knowledge of QA processes and testing methods (like manual, automated, regression, end-to-end, smoke testing). - Experience manual testing web and mobile applications. - Good knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP). - Good understanding of JavaScript-based test tools like Cypress or WebdriverIO. - Experience with mobile test automation. - Experience writing comprehensive automated tests. - Knowledge of SQL or PostgreSQL. - Comfortable working with tools like Postman, JIRA, Git, and CI/CD platforms like CircleCI. - Understanding of Page Object Model and other test design patterns. - Experience building or improving test automation frameworks. - Confident in reading and writing clear test plans and bug reports. - Good writing and oral skills. • Technical and operational responsibility for our Atlassian service stack (in particular Jira, Confluence and Jira Service Management) • Ensuring stable, secure and scalable operations as well as continuous development of the Atlassian platform • Advising on the implementation of processes and requirements and serving as a sparring partner for system owners, product owners, business units and IT management on equal terms • Collecting, evaluating and structurally implementing functional and technical requirements • Designing, customizing and optimizing Jira and Confluence setups (workflows, screens, fields, permissions, project and space structures) • Building and maintaining automations (e.g., Jira Automation, ScriptRunner) • Integration and configuration of common Atlassian Marketplace apps • Defining and establishing standards, governance rules and best practices for platform usage • Supporting teams in the efficient and effective use of Atlassian tools • Identifying optimization potential in operations, processes, licensing and costs • Creating clear technical documentation to ensure sustainable knowledge build-up.
