Role Description We’re looking for a Director of Engineering, Payments to lead the teams that power Storable’s cross-product payment platform and related shared services used by products across our ecosystem. In this role, you’ll own the strategy, execution, and operational excellence of payment product. You’ll lead multiple engineering teams (US and offshore), partner closely with Product, Architecture, and Security, and ensure services are secure, reliable, and easy to integrate for other Storable product teams like Edge, SiteLink, and Easy. What You’ll Do - Strategy & Ownership - Own the engineering strategy and roadmap for payments used by the Storage vertical, aligned to company and product goals. - Define and drive a platform-first approach: build shared capabilities once and scale them across products and verticals. - Partner with Product, Architecture, and Security to define long-term Architecture and Design. - Delivery & Execution - Lead multiple teams to deliver high-impact initiatives across the payment vertical. - Establish clear execution plans, milestones, and success metrics; ensure teams hit commitments while managing risk and trade-offs. - Collaborate closely with product engineering teams to design integration patterns, migration plans, and rollout strategies that minimize customer disruption. - Engineering Excellence & Operations - Own the operational health of platform services (availability, performance, incident response, SLAs). - Drive secure-by-default engineering practices and ensure financial compliance (e.g., payments-adjacent, PCI-impacted, SOC2 expectations). - Raise the bar on reliability, observability, and resilience, including on-call practices, runbooks, and post-incident learning. - Partner with Security to evaluate and mitigate platform risks, including abuse, privilege escalation, and integration misuse. - People Leadership - Lead, develop, and retain a high-performing group of engineering managers and senior ICs, including career growth, coaching, and performance management. - Build a healthy, inclusive team culture that values accountability, psychological safety, and continuous improvement. - Shape hiring plans and partner with Talent/HR to recruit exceptional engineering talent in both US and international locations. - Cross-Functional Leadership - Act as the primary engineering counterpart for Product and PMO on Payment. - Represent Payment in architecture reviews, quarterly planning, and portfolio trade-off discussions, clearly articulating impact, risk, and dependencies. - Communicate status, risks, and decisions to executive stakeholders in a clear, concise, and data-informed way. Qualifications - 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years in engineering leadership (managing managers and/or multiple teams). - Proven track record owning platform or shared services in a multi-product B2B SaaS environment (e.g., payments, identity/SSO, permissions, access control, security-sensitive services). - Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-team migrations or platformization efforts (e.g., consolidating multiple legacy services into a shared platform). - Strong technical background in modern cloud architectures (microservices, APIs, event-driven systems) and familiarity with secure coding practices. - Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience working directly with senior product and business leaders. - Experience working with AI tooling (i.e. Claude Code, Github CoPilot). Preferred Experience - Experience in payments-adjacent, compliance-heavy, or security-sensitive domains (e.g., PCI, SOC2, HIPAA-like environments). - Background working with multi-tenant enterprise customers, particularly around enterprise SSO, delegated administration, and granular permissions. - Experience leading distributed teams (onshore/offshore) and scaling organizations through change. - Prior experience in property management, fintech, or similar vertical SaaS is a plus, but not required.
